sorry that the last few have been really short im gonna try to make this one long

So I read somewhere that the universe is expanding. But I mean where is it expanding to? What can it expand to? Is there just a space of nothingness that it keeps expanding to? Well me and my friend were talking about this yesterday.

Heres the theory,

What if the universe isn't really expanding and its shrinking. But then again if it was shrinking what is it shrinking from like what is the space left from it shrinking. Is there just emptiness its expanding towards or shrinking from?
