Acquainted with The Night

I have been one acquainted with the night.

I have walked out in rain, and back in rain.

I have outwalked the furthest city light.

I have looked down the saddest city lane.

I have passed by the watchman on his beat

And dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain.

I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet

When far away an interrupted cry

Came over houses from another street,

But not to call me back or say good-bye;

And further still at an unearthly height,

O luminary clock against the sky

Proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right.

I have been one acquainted with the night.

Chapter Four:
Acquainted with The Night

Walking around the city, holding shopping bag in her hand, Laura didn't bother looking around. Too much was going on. Way to many of them heading to where a meeting of Church of Humanity was being held.

Her fiery hair flew around her face, before she could really concentrate on what was going on. A loud explosion. People running and screaming.

She froze. Her icy eyes spotted a brown haired young man she knows oh so well. Someone flashing from her past, but he looks different. His icy blue eyes that were so much like her own shined as he used ice to protect the civilians.

Breathing hard, Laura wanted to run to him, protect him. "Robby!" Laura finally croaked out, moving forward.

The harsh cold of the wind didn't phase her. Moving forward, Laura didn't notice the gross green man heading straight to her. A stick long tongue shooting out of his mouth. The smell of sulfur and feeling lightheaded. The warmth of arms wrapping around her, and something long and thing moving around her leg.

Not feeling wind, or anything. Everything was dizzy, and hard to concentrate. Not noticing that she lost her bag, or anything else that was going on. A slight ringing in her ears, and dazed look on her face. "Laura!" A thick German accent screamed at her. "Laura! Answer me!" Then he softly shook her shoulders.

"Kurt?" She gasped, finally getting her bearings.

The blue man before her let out a breath he didn't even noticed he was holding him. Pushing her fiery hair out of her face, his amber eyes met those of blue. "Are hurt?" He asked, words cut in bits, almost like Laura wasn't listening to him.

"I'm fine. Why is my baby cousin out there? Why is he fighting?" Laura asked, panicking.

"Miss Drake, please calm down." A masculine voice spoke. Laura looked around the building that Kurt bamf them into. She couldn't see where the voice was coming from, which scared her slightly. "You are fine, safe. Though do not worry of your cousin, he is safe too." The voice kept speaking. "I am Professor Charles Xavier." He finished.

"Where are you?" Laura asked, gripping tightly onto Kurt's arm. The blue man didn't mind, only wanted to calm the kind spirited girl. If him staying a tad bit longer to calm her nerves would help then so be it.

"I am speaking to you from another location through a telepathic link." He explained, making Laura grip on Kurt tighten. His three fingers softly rubbed Laura's arm till she loosen her grip. "We need Mr Kurt Wagner back out there, making sure innocent civilians aren't getting caught in crossfire." The man explained, making Laura's eyes dart up to Kurt's worry amber ones.
