Chapter Two

“So tell me when you hear my heart stop

You’re the only one that knows

Tell me when you hear my silence

There’s a possibility I wouldn’t know”

-Lykke Li, Possibility

My eyes fluttered open, slowly.

Slowly, I became aware of my surroundings. I was being carried in the arms of a guy. It was either he sucked at carrying people, or the ground was really bumpy.

I felt raindrops pattering around me and felt that my clothes were soaked. Water dripped on my face and in my eyes, and I saw that it was night time. Stars twinkled above me merrily, and I blinked rapidly, trying to clear my vision from the rain.

“Boss,” rumbled a deep voice from directly above me. “The chick’s awake.”

“Oh, she won’t be a problem,” said another voice from behind. I remembered it; it was the voice of that insanely cute guy from the alley! My heart pounded as the events of the day- possibly night, or morning- Oh, I didn’t know- came rushing back to me. I wriggled my heavy body.

“Let me go,” I croaked, trying to sit up. “Oh no you don’t, lassie,” said the rumbly voice in a Scottish accent. Someone pushed me down and I gave up willingly, too exhausted.

“Where are you taking me?” I demanded to no one in particular. There were some chuckles, but no answer.

“Where are you taking me?” I demanded again, this time, my voice was stronger. Still no answer.

“You stupid bastards- where are you taking me?” The cuss word just slipped out of my mouth, and mentally I chided myself. If father were here, he’d-

Wait a second. Father was not here.

“You stupid f*cking fudging assholes,” I said in delight. “You idiot swine-brained monstrous chocolate eating fudge pigs.”

This time there was full blown laughter. “She sounds like she’s having fun,” said another guy. Davis, that was his name- the guy from the alley. I heard footsteps approach quickly, and I craned my head to look behind. I saw Will’s handsome face, and my heart immediately started to beat a little faster.

“Are you tired, Chester?” he said in a falsely concerned voice. All the while, his eyes were on me. I couldn’t help but feel flattered. Chester grunted. “It’s only a little way more, I can handle this lassie,” he said.

“Don’t be silly- I’ll take her,” Will said, and his arms slipped behind my back. I heard the clinking of chains, and some part of me realized that I was handcuffed. The other parts of me were just too busy taking in Will’s rain soaked face, and the way his blonde hair, darkened by the rain, stuck to his head. It was just so unfairly cute. Those eyelashes should belong to a girl.

“What are you staring at?” he asked me, smirking.

“Nothing,” I said unsteadily, my cheeks growing warm. Yeah right. I was just thinking of how hot you are when that strand of hair falls into your eyes…

Will’s smirk grew even more pronounced. I blinked once, and gave myself a mental slap. ‘Snap out of it,’ my mind warned. ‘The guy’s dangerous.’ But how could I ignore his closeness?

“I know what you’re thinking,” said Will suddenly, just low enough for me to hear, giving me a shock. “You’re thinking of how hot I am in the rain.” My breath hitched in my throat, and I gave a little gasp. How the… how the hell did he know?
