Alice's POV

Mattie left soon after, promising to come back tomorrow. I watched sadly as he climbed back down the tall tower, still a bit shocked that there was another person who knew about this place. Was Martin strange for keeping me up here, in this tall brick tower? What was Mattie's life like? As hard as I tried, I couldn't remember what it was like to live normally in a house, all I remember is what it looked like. A small stone cottage, with a dark green roof. It was surrounded by trees, and there was a small path that lead out to a village.

I sighed, remembering how Martin would always tell me not to go outside the tower. Too bad for me, there wasn't any other option. I didn't have my hair to help me down, and who knows what kind of things were in that forest? 'Still...Matthew made it here...'

I tossed and turned in my sleep that night, waking up dreadfully to the awful sound of my name being called from below. "Two days in a row," I muttered, lazily getting out of bed. "this better be important." I walked over to the...window? Doorway? What would you even call that?

Anyways, I walked over, braid in hand, tossing it over the side. I stifled a yawn, grabbing an apple from a basket I had stored away, taking a big bite. Mm. Apples. They have that tang that sorta just...makes you more awake. I dunno.

I got a glass, it re-filling with fresh water on command. A nice part of having Martin as my dad is that I got to learn plenty of magic. He says I can't tell anyone about it, but for once, I agree. He's told me how normal people can't do magic, and might try to burn me. Talk about a 'warm' welcome.

I turned back to the doorway/window thing just as Martin stepped over the edge landing with a soft thud on the wooden floor. He narrowed his gaze at me, walking over. "Alice," He started, walking around me. Jeez, he really is a creepy person. Pacing around girls shouldn't be considered normal, should it? "There have been people around here, around your tower. Be careful, and don't answer to anyone other than me."

"Alright, Martin..."

He sighed, grabbing my shoulders. "Alice, I mean it. If I find out you're talking with any of those mortals, you will be punished."

...That's a bit harsh, don'tcha think? I gulped, nodding. "I promise I won't." He let go of me, setting a basket on the counter. I frowned, setting a hand on it. It didn't smell like food...

"Here's a little something to keep you company. Don't want to have you breaking that promise, do we?"  With that, he started the treacherous descent of the tower, while I was left to stare at the...gift, I guess?

'What...is this?' I poked the white ball inside the basket, and shreiked when it moved. The animal looked up at me with its' black eyes, lifting a paw to the edge of the basket. "Aww~!" I exclaimed, picking up the bear cub. "You're so adorable!" I spun around the room with it, and thinking back...I may have scared it half to death. BUT SHE'S SO ADORABLE.

"A name, a name..." I thought for a while, until suddenly, a name popped into my mind. 'Why Ko? I feel like I remember it from somewhere, like in another life...whatever.' "Ko it is!"

I hugged Ko tightly, only then realizing how lonely I was in this big tower. I honestly had my doubts about Mattie coming back, but I had a little spark of hope that burned brightly in my mind. "It won't be easy...but I believe in him." I whispered, Ko's ears the only ones the words reached.

 ...Or so I thought.

 POV- Alfred

"That was SO close, brah!" I exclaimed, hitting my brother's arm lightly. Matt sighed, looking up at me. "You have to be more careful, that man looked...mysterious, to say the least." "So what?" I shrugged, picking up the cold, stone-encrusted hilt of the sword I kept under my bed, waving it around. "I could slice that dude to pieces with one hit! Oh wait...I'll slice him in half with one hit..."

I pondered over logic for a while, then stopped. "Wait, why do I care?" I turned to face my bro. "Hey Ma- where'd he go?" I looked around, then sighed. 'Was it the sword? I bet it was the sword. Or maybe it was my genius thinking skills that drove him away in fear.

'...No, it was definitely the sword. It's frickin' amazing.'

 ***

You know those weird deja vu moments that people get randomly, like they've seen something happen before? That happened to me in a dream, except I've never actually seen the person before...sorta like a vision-memory. A vi-mory! My superiour knowledge may frighten whoever is reading...this...wait, why the hell is someone reading this?! These are my thoughts! Go away!

Hm...well, I guess I'll keep going with the 'story' I'm telling you, whoever you are. I mean, you've gotta love my mind, it's the best, 'cuz I'm the hero, and Matt's a total pushover sometimes. I'm not exactly sure why you'd want to look into his mind, I mean, he's probably just always thinking about that stupid bear of his...why didn't I get a pet too? I'm responsable...ish...

Anyways, when I fell asleep, I saw this chick. She had this wickedly long hair that would shine like an awesome diamond in the light! It was gold, and red, and brown, and all sorts of totally wack colours! I didn't see her face, but I kept hearing her voice. "Al," She said, looking into the faded distance of a vast blank space. "I thought you'd rescue me...hero..."

It was only a while later, as I was walking around the castle, looking back on that dream with my awesomely knightly and heroic logic which none can beat, I thought to myself, 'I know that girl...

'...and I'll be the one to save her.'
