“Hey you.” A male voice rang close to Rosie as chills ran through her spine.
Turning around she was met with someone she wished she hadn’t.
“Hey yourself.” She scoffed about to walk away with two water bottle in hand until a manly and caught her bicep causing her to turn around.
“Rosie come on it was four years ago.” He pleaded knowing well what he did was wrong but he had no choice.
“Yes, I’ve been over it and now let’s just pretend this never happened.” She told him trying to keep her voice strong but she knew once she saw him it would hurt.
“I never stop thinking about you Rose.” He said sincerely.
“Really? She asked, his words hit a cord in her heart because somewhere deep down she knew he hadn’t because she hadn’t also. “I would have never guessed after the 10th call and no answer.”
The man didn’t know what to do but let his head fall back and let out a breath.
“We were leaving high school-
“And I can’t believe I ever thought of being your friend after that.” Rosie cut him off.
“I wanted to be your friend Rose.” His tone got stern as he began to get irritated by her harsh tone of words.
“Huh.” Rosie bit her bottom lip as if thinking. “Then I’m pretty sure when you actually did try to call me back that girl that was with you persuaded you to be my boyfriend again.”
“Rosie-“ The male’s voice was strained as he tried to get through to the girl.
“No.” She began, taking a silent gulp. “James, I’m sorry you didn’t want a long distance relationship but what you did hurt me especially hearing another girl on the phone a month after our break-up.”
It was silent between the two as Rosie’s eyes brows were scrunched up a bit and James jaw’s was clenched as his eyes appeared to be dark brow and sorrow.
Rosie couldn’t stand to be there any longer and slowly took steps back until she was far enough to turn her back to him, but she knew his gaze was still fixed on her.
“Hey man, the kids are loving the game.” Aaron his best friend since high school said as an arm was draped over his shoulder.
“That’s great.” James muffled the words as he was not in the mood to talk.
“Dude you looked like you seen a ghost or something.” Aaron admitted as his friends face was pale and dark circles were appearing below his eyes.
“Yeah, or something.” James took a breath his chest rising then falling as a thought came. He just arrived to the center and wouldn’t leave until 5 he might as well make the best of it.
“I’ll tell you later.”
_______
It was now lunch time for the kids and volunteers’, being as it was 12:30. The center provided individual sandwiches and salads and etc.
“Here, I’ll bring you a Caesar salad and you can finish the story.” Hailey told her friend not wanting to leave her alone but they hadn’t eaten anything since 7 in the morning.
“Thanks.” Rosie said in gratitude as she slumped back down to her seat taking out her galaxy phone.
As the brunette walked past every non Caesar salad she couldn’t help but feel someone watching her.
“It’s You.” She gasped looking up at the man before her. It was the ‘jerk’ who honked at her earlier this morning.
“Are you a fan?” The man with curly hair smirked as he grabbed an apple juice from the giant bowl filled with melting ice and juice bottles.
“No.” She scoffed. “But I can see you are.” Hailey replied honestly as she was finally found the salad.
“Do you not know who I am?”
“A baseball fan?”
The man with curly hair couldn’t help but laugh at her obvious assumption.
“Yes, but a player as well.”
Hailey couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow at his choice of words.
“A baseball player. I’m Aaron Towers.”
“Okay.” Hailey let our a short laugh as she walked along the long table as the man known as Aaron Towers walked on the other side along with her.
“Do you not watch baseball?” He asked his ego slowly lowering as this girl was the first to not ask for an autograph.
“No, not really.” She replied honestly as they were nearing the end of the table.
“Well then may I know the name of the first girl to not through herself at me?” A smirked appeared as he saw her eyes widen and a blush appear on her caramel cheeks. He had to admit, he color looked natural on her.
“Hailey Ramos.” She stuck out her hand for him to shake but instead he gave it a kiss not breaking her eye contact.
“Beautiful name, for a beautiful young lady.” He winked before placing her hand back to her side.
Hailey didn’t know what to say or to do so just take in a deep breath and espy at the floor before looking back at him with round brown eyes and a hint of pink upon her porcelain cheeks.
