Anna's POV
I couldn't sleep all night. I was too excited to sleep. Butterflies, no, elephants were dancing inside my stomach. I checked my phone to see if I had got any messages. There was one from my best friend Chloe and one from Jackson. He was my other best friend. Chloe and Harvey weren't so close with him so he didn't sit with us at lunch that often but we did go out a lot and he has always been there whenever I needed him. My phone buzzed again causing me to come back from my thoughts. It was Chloe again. She and Harvey were going to the mall this weekend and asked me to come along but I refused telling them that I had to go somewhere else with my family. Jackson was also asking me to watch a movie with him tomorrow but I refused again. Jackson was so sweet. He always kept me before his friends and spent more time with me. He was there when he left. The guy that I will most probably meet tomorrow. He was always there, consoling me, sitting by me as I waited endlessly in front of my gate, expecting him to return but he never did. He was my elementary friend. Though we did not live close nor were we that close friends but he stayed with me. I would never be thankful enough to him.
Before I realised it I was fast asleep. I woke up again around 5:00 in the morning. It was still too early so I could not go down and nag my mom about telling me what the surprise was. I picked up my phone to check my texts. There were a lot of them from a lot of people wishing me happy birthday; i replied to them all and started to read a book on wattpad. It was a really interesting one.
I got so engrossed in it that before I knew it my mom was already awake and was making breakfast. I ran down and hugged my mom from behind. She turned around and while kissing my head, wished me happy birthday. Then she said that she had some bad news. I got anxious but then how bad could a news be unless it was of someone's death.
"What is it mom?" I asked.
"Actually, your dad's friend's family cannot come it to the farmhouse today." She replied.
WHAT?????!!!! I screamed inside my head. This is worse than people passing away. Why could they not come? Why does this always happen to me? Why? why? Why? Now I would never know if it was the same family or not but there's always a chance isn't there?
"Mom...you could at least tell me who they were? Their name..?" I asked grasping on the last strip of hope.
" I don't know that myself. Your dad knows but he is away for a meeting and then will be flying over to Europe for a business trip. You can ask him when he comes back though." She says.
Nooooooo!!! This can't be happening, this cannot happen! Why in the world did dad chose this time to go? Couldn't he have gone tomorrow or day after tomorrow? Why today?! Well I guess I'll never see him again...
