"Alright ladies and gentlemen the race is about to begin!" Maggie called out as the crowd roared to life "you all know the rules and if you don't here is a little refresher. At any point in time of a race a racer calls a rematch with another racer, and the challenge is accepted, the race is held in one weeks time" Jasper and I glared at each other while the rules and how a rematch race works were being explained to the crowd, just in case there were some newbies tonight, we never made any effort to break the stare off.
Jasper used to be my everything; we met when I was still attending school. He was the entire reason I left my hometown and came here. We were like bonnie and Clyde. He stood at 6'1 and had a face to match his attitude, smug. He had a big scar by his left eye from a big accident we were in. turning his once gentle face into a curial and wicked glare.
I can still remember the accident; I have a scar on my back as a constant reminder. It was early December and it had tried to snow. The roads were slick and covered in black ice. Jasper insisted we attend his friends party, said it would be the party of the century. He was going so fast. We turned a corner.
I woke up in a hospital room alone. Bandage on my back and no one by my side. I knew in that moment jasper and me would never be the same. It was the end and for a while I was sad about it, that was until I found out there was no party that night.
"Racers are you ready!" jasper and I revved our engines ready to go. It seemed all of the things that surrounded me were at a stand still. There right in front of me standing in the crowd in the front row was Michael. The kid had returned! I was excited and could barely contain myself. Once the bandana hit the ground I was off. I had surpassed jasper with ease and not once let him gain any type of lead. With blurred lines filling my vision I finished the race not once using my noss. Everything had blended together. I took my beauty Bell bow and walked right up to Michael and with the most serious expression I could hold.
