At this certain time northern India was a very well proclaimed Hindu area. They did not appreciate any missionaries from any religions coming and trying to get them to convert.
One day a missionary called by God came to this little village. His visit ended with a man, his wife, and two children saved. Soon that missionary left on his way to other places but that family boldly proclaimed there Christianity to all that would listen.
After a while the person that was in charge, like a mayor, heard about it and was angered that they renounced Hinduism. He had all four of them brought to the square in the middle of town in front of everyone. The man in charge had people line up and aim arrows at the mans children and he said to the christian, "If you renounce your Christianity and proclaim Hinduism again we will spare your children's life's"
In response the christian man said, "I have decided to follow Jesus. I have decided to follow Jesus. No turning back. No turning back."
Then he watched as his two precious children were shot and killed with arrows. He then watched as they aimed, this time, at his wife. Again the leader said, "If you renounce your Christianity and proclaim Hinduism we will spare your wifes life"
In response the christian man said "Though no one go with me still I will follow. Though no one go with me still I will follow. No turning back. No turning back."
He then had to watch as his wife was shot and then died. The arrows were then turned on him but fired with out hesitation.
As he laid there in front of his entire village dying he said, "The world behind me the cross before me. The world behind me the cross before me. No turning back. No turning back."
Not long after the deaths of this family others started to ponder over what all happened. Soon, because of what they witnessed from the testimony of the christian family, that they were willing to die for what they belived in everyone in the village was saved.
Word got out eventually of what happened and when one missionary heard about what the christian man said as he watched his whole family get murdered and then him self for what they belived in, he decided to make it known.
He took the mans words and made it into a song for everyone to know. That is where the song 'I Have Decided To Follow Jesus' comes from.
