Conna adored the winter. When everything was coated in icing white like a cake, she wanted to stand and marvel at her surroundings for hours. Especially frozen ponds, with their glossy surfaces.
Just like most kids her age (14) she would have snowball fights with the others in the neighbourhood and her sister. She loved it when her parents would come out with them and join in. Afterwards, they'd spend ages on a snowman, getting all the details into his face so he would look cute. Her mother, being a sculptor, would guide her two daughters' hands, skilfully helping them along. Her dad worked at a store selling winter items like beanies, scarves and gloves, and would bring some home for the snowman. It was their annual ritual.
But Conna's favourite thing of all. It had to be stopping time and gazing at the floating snowflakes, inspecting every little point and hole. Because she could freeze time like winter freezes water.
When it was school, which wasn't now because of the Christmas holidays, being late to classes never happened to her. Conna could rush through the motionless crowd of students and get there before everyone else. If she forgot any homework, she could simply walk back home to fetch it. It wasn't far.
Astonishingly, no one else knew. When time stopped, it was like being unconscious for everyone around her. But enough about that. We'll move on to the day it finally snowed.

Phew, part one. I haven't really worked out a storyline for this story yet, but hey, I have ideas. Hope you enjoyed!
