so I've made a tutorial through a video a while back, but it's really bad so I'm going to use the new update (where you can add multiple pictures in a chapter) to help with this tutorial!
so in the picture above is the cover I'll be doing this on. Btw this is all on a phone, so if you're trying to figure out how to do covers on a computer, this is not where to find it! (I make all my covers on my phone)
-------
1) well first you have to find a picture. I use Pinterest a lot to find good pictures, especially for simple or collage covers.I used this as my "base," and I cropped it using the Wattpad covers app.
After finding my pictures, I go to Picsart to edit them all together. To do this, I go to the "add photo" option. Usually I try to add pictures one at a time because it can be annoying to have so many on your screen, but it wasn't difficult for this cover.
Well, this was what I was planning to do but if you have a really dark picture it's hard to tell what is part of the background in Picsart and your picture, so I decided to add a frame, which I also add frames if I feel like the cover needs something more
(If you want a black border, just open the picture and add a plain black or white picture then use the "difference" effect to change the color.)
Now I can add the pictures, so I go to add photos and move them to where I think they look best (as shown)
So it doesn't look very good right now, so I use the effects, and just go through to see which I like best. I also change the opacity, to however I think looks best.
I also like to blur the pictures together to make it look a lot better.
To do this, tap on the picture you want to blur out, and tap on the little pencil in the left corner, there are settings to change the opacity, drawing and erasing the picture, and blurriness.
So, now that you're done with adding your pictures, you can edit and add text. Editing can be anything from adding a texture, using the tools, and effects. For this one, I just slightly used the adjust tool, and the effects. I really like the Drama and HDR 1 effect, but i like to go through and see which one I want.
Adjusting isn't hard at all, just go to tools, see the adjust feature, and play around.
Finally, to adding text! Save your picture, then go to Phonto.
The title for this story was "Swords" so it wasn't that difficult for the text. If you have longer titles, it makes it more difficult sometimes.
A tip for fonts is to find one that fits with the story, this should be obvious but it's really important to cover making.
Since this is a premade and I really have a lot of creative control, it was easy for me to decide. I used Roman SD for the title, and OptimusPrinceps for the author.
The placing wasn't very hard for this cover, I just placed it right in the middle basically.
I added shadows and spacing though. Shadows is honestly amazing. I can't tell you how many covers this option has improved, and the spacing can make things look so much better.
So I played around with that (I don't think I need to give steps to that, but if you don't know how to get there, just ask)
And finally, more editing! I save the picture, and go back to Picsart.
I wanted to make the cover a little but lighter, so I added this texture, using the screen effect.
I use this texture so much oops. You can find textures anywhere, there's a lot of accounts with textures and things like that, and you can just search them too!
So yeah, that's about it!
I hope this was helpful. I feel like I added a lot here 😂
