Chapter 5
Nyani
It was hot.
I couldn't breathe. His fingers were ice cold but they burned my skin like dry ice. I struggled against the weight pressing down on me. Desperately clawing at the hands around my neck I thrashed around trying to throw him off but he was too heavy. The vice like grip he had around my throat only became tighter the more I fought. The look in his eyes let me know he wasn't letting go until he saw the life leave my own. I was going to die and the last face I would see would be this deranged bastards.
Gasping awake, my chest heaved and my lungs expanded as I took in breath after breath. My head hurt badly tears were streaming down my face. Someone was at my side I could feel their hands on my shoulder they were yelling at me but I couldn't make out a single word they were saying. It felt as though I was under water I couldn't think straight my thoughts were jumbled and my emotions only consisted of two things hopelessness and fear. "What's happened? Where the hell was I?"
"It's just a dream Nyani open your eyes." A woman screamed her voice muffled.
I blinked but my vision remained a haze of light and shadows. Lord almighty was I dead or dying? My hands quickly shot up towards my throat and I started clawing at imaginary fingers.
"Nyani.... open yours eyes and look at me." The voice screamed again hands grabbed at my own and my eyes suddenly shot open.
The brilliant but feisty blue eyes of Katia hovered above me, and I was suddenly flushed with overwhelming relief. It was a dream! A nightmare that had taken on a life of it's own. I could finally see Katia clearly and she looked frightened. Her hair was a mess and her face was stained with tears. Fear wrapped itself around me and my haze filled memory cleared only to reveal the nasty truth. Nikolaus and I argued. We were ambushed on the road shot at and nearly blown up. Niko was in trouble.
"Niko!" I screamed out.
Katia dragged me into a bear hug my face buried in the crook of her neck. I clung to her hoping this certain fear would go way.
"He's fine Nyani. He's alive and well." She said soothingly.
Everything was suddenly coming back the horrific events of today were flashing in front of my eyes. I needed to get my head in the game I felt as if I was this weak and clueless little girl playing with the big boys. Sighing I slowly pulled myself out of Katia's bone crushing hold. Taking a glance around the room I realized that it belonged to none other than Nikolaus Romanov.
We'd arrived about three hours ago. Freaking out was something I was apparently good at. The moment we stepped into the foyer I had the biggest meltdown of all meltdowns."Oh my god! Oh my god!" What the fuck is happening?" I screamed out looking around at Nikolaus's men. They just stood there staring at me. Knowing I wasn't going to get anything out of them I turned to Katia totally oblivious to the fact that she was in the dark just as much as I was.
The look on my face said it all I felt crazed. I was almost blown to bits by a damn rocket launcher. I felt like pulling out my hair. Or was I pulling out my hair hell who knew anymore? Everywhere I turned someone was trying to kill me or hurt the people I loved.Pacing back and forth I tried calming myself by taking a few deep breaths in and out but the only thing I managed to achieve was to push myself even deeper into my world of fright and panic.
