If I were to become a motivational speaker, here's what I'd tell you about how we see the world.
So many of us notice the negativity in the world. The violence and hatred and inequality but, what we fail to notice, is what role each of us play. We believe too strongly in revenge or "getting even". If someone comes up to us and decides to be rude, what's our first instinct? To be rude right back to them. We think that it'll solve it but really, it plays a part in the problem.
You see, we can't expect something positive if we're too busy throwing out negativity. That's like me punching you in the face and you punching me right back but expecting smiles from there on out. Sorry to burst your bubble but, uhh, not gonna happen. I know this sounds "impossible" and it may be something you're so used to hearing but, if you want positivity and kindness, you've got to give it.
Now I know you're probably thinking "but they were rude first" and yes, maybe they were but, honestly, what's it gonna solve doing the same to them? Probably nothing. If you want a more positive world, you've gotta help break the cycle of hatred.
Do what you can to be kind. Little things really do matter. It may seem like they don't but they really do. Whether you hold a door for someone or invite them to sit with you or compliment them or even so much as a smile, you really can brighten someone's day. By doing that, you just might motivate them to brighten someone else's day and so on. It's more effective than we realize. It doesn't take some grand gesture either, something so tiny can be so mighty. After all, a rain drop is so small but can create endless ripples. Yes, I realize that may sound sooo cliche but it really is true. I've learned from experience.
The world is what we make it and we can't expect positivity and kindness if we keep dwelling on the hatred and letting that sour our hearts. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying if you're kind to others the world is gonna become this sweet cupcake factory where we all hold hands and sing songs of joy because let's face it- not gonna happen. But it wouldn't hurt to try and it'll make things better, if even just a bit. I don't see how it'll make things worse.
So that in short- don't dwell on the hatred in the world. Instead, do your part to make it happy.
