~skip to day of the cheer comp~
I wake up a hour before my alarm so I start packing my cheer bag. I grab ear buds, my warmup jacket, my cheer shoes, my portable charger, and snacks to put in my bag. I put on my uniform and my warm up pants on under. I go and do my hair and makeup then put my makeup into my cheer bag. I drive over to Tim's to get a drink, then to the school. I take a picture and tweet it with "Pre-Comp juice" and Shawn responds with "Character Development Kase😂" I respond with a simple "🖕🏼" (middle finger emoji if you can't see). When the coaches start rolling up I get out of my Jeep and I get into the bus. On the ride there we talk about me and Dani dying our hair and me looking less emo. We get to the venue and we go inside and I get ambused by Shawn and Hayes.

"Guys I love you both but I have to go get ready to go to warm ups." I say and they back away. I go back to my team and I take off my warm up bottoms and put on my cheer shoes. The team goes and get our team pictures and then we go warm up. Everything hits and we're good to go. We go out onto the mats and do the cheer part of the routine. When the tumbling part I land my full wrong and I hurt my ankle. We go to the stunts and we hit. During the dance we nail it and during the jumps I land wrong again, which sends pain shooting through my leg. After we craddle from the pyramid I walk off the mats and go to the doctor. He looks at it and gives me crutches and tells me to go to the ER. I go into the venue again and I signal for Shawn and Hayes to come over to me.

"Kasey what did you do?" Hayes asks.

"I rolled my ankle but he told me to go to the ER." I say.

"I can go get your bag." Shawn says.

"I'll go let your coach know." Hayes says and they go different ways. Shawn comes back and I take my bag. Hayes comes back and we go to the car. I sit in the back of her truck and we go to the hospital. I gimp in and sign in. When they call me back I gimp to the room and they take x-rays.

"Well Miss Marder it looks like you broke your fourth and fifth metatarsal. Those are the bones that run from your ankle to your pinkie toe and the one next to those." The doctor says.

"When will it be healed?" I ask.

"The normal recovery time is six to eight weeks."

"So like Halloween time?"

"Yes. You'll have to make a follow up with your physician. Would you like crutches or a scooter?"

"Crutches." I say and he excuses himself.

"How are you going to Arizona?" Hayes asks.

"By a plane." I say emotionlessly.

"How will you get through a metal detector?" She asks.

"I don't know. A wheel chair maybe. I just know I have to go. I can't miss this trip. It's like the eleventh anniversary of my dad's passing."

"So are you just going to Arizona to go visit his grave?" Shawn asks.

"Yeah." I say.

"Don't lash out on me, but I don't think it's a good idea for you to go Kase. There's a time where we need to let go, I love you but you haven't let go of your dad's death. Quiet honestly I think you're slowly getting worse about it. Trump becoming president isn't the real reason you moved." Hayes says.

"Hayes I love you too and I wasn't mad until that last part. You said you wouldn't bring it up." I say.

"I'm sorry my speech got derailed." She says.

"Wait what? Why did you move? Why does your best friend know but not your boyfriend?" Shawn asks starting to freak out.

"Because Serria told me." Hayes says attempting to recover.

"Okay well can you tell me now?"

"No. Not here." I mumble and the doctor comes back in.

"Okay here are your crutches. Do you know how you know how to use them?" He asks.

"Yeah." I say and he hands me the crutches and they wrap my foot and put it into a boot. We go on our way. "We need to go to the school since my car's there." I say when we get to the car.

"Okay I'll drop you two off at the school." Hayes says and the rest of the car ride is Hayes singing along with the radio. She drops us off at the school and we get into my car.

"What did Hayes say at the hospital?" Shawn asks when we get into the car.

"Uhm. That I didn't only leave Arizona because Trump became president." I mumble.

"Why else?"

"Don't pry."

"Kasey Anne Michelle Marder."

"Shawn Peter Raul Mendes."

"Please."

"No. You'll baby me and treat me like I'm broken."

"No I won't Kasey. I really, really like you. Nothing can change how I think about you. I promise." Shawn says. Wow two really's. They say after four you're supposed to drop the l-o word.

"Shawn can we just go to my house and talk about it." I groan.

"Okay. Fine." Shawn says and he starts the car. The car ride is completely silent because Hayes isn't here to sing along to the radio that wasn't playing. I get out of my car, which I can't drive for about 7 weeks. I go to my front door and Shawn opens the door for me. I go into the house and my mom hops of the couch.

"Kasey Anne Michelle Marder what did you do to yourself?" She asks.

"Broke my fourth and fifth metatarsals." I mumble.

"How are you going to get up into your room?" She asks.

"I don't know. Can't I stay in the guest room?"

"I suppose so honey."

"Shawn can you get my laptop and it's charger?" I ask Shawn and he nods and goes up to my room. I head to the guest room and on the way to the guest room Jess sees me.

"Oh honey!" She groans.

"I know Jess. I should be recovered in six to eight weeks." I say.

"Oh no! What about homecoming?" She asks.

"Oh. I forgot about that. Me and Shawn will probably just hang together that night." I say.

"I think that's something you and him should talk about." Jess says.

"Okay. I'm going to my temporary room." I say and Jess looks at me weird, "The guest room." I add.

"Which one?"

"Uhm the Harry Potter one that has a Narnia connected." I say.

"That's the guest room attached to the panic room." Jess says.

"No. Its Narnia." I say.

"What ever. Is Shawn staying for dinner?" Jess asks.

"No clue. Ask him." I say.

"Okay well I'll let you go let your coach know that you're out for the rest of the fall season."

"Thanks Jess." I say and I go to the guest room. Five minutes later Shawn comes into my room bearing my laptop with its charger and three duffle bags.

"What did you do?" I ask.

"I got like half of your closet. Into three duffle bags." Shawn boasts.

"It's probably the half I don't wear." I say.

"You never wear the same thing twice. You're like a reverse cartoon character."

"Okay rude."

"Okay so my mom said I have to be home for dinner since we have family over, but I'm getting that story from you tomorrow." Shawn says.

"Okay. Have fun." I say and Shawn kisses me goodbye.
