Bejeweled grass,
glistening in the dawn light
tiny diamonds, adorning the jade carpet
birds singing morning vespers
welcoming the sun
once again
feeling the warmth on their wings as they take flight
oh how I wish I could fly
as the bird does so I can be free
but alas that is not to be
I shall have to be content
with the beauty from the ground
for even though I can't soar among the clouds
I am free to wander the earth
to climb the mountains,
swim the lakes and oceans,
and even fly if I care, though not on my own
see numerous sunrises
and marvel at each one
for you never know
when it might be your last
so live while you can
enjoy while you're here
the beauty of the sunrise
and the pureness of a new day
