They had married for all the wrong reasons so it didn't surprise when it all fell like a row of dominos. The late nights, the days out of town, and weeks overseas out on "business" should have raised alarm but she had attributed that to his career and muffed her suspicions. "Professional cleaner my ass".
Then there’d been the elusive answers which had always fueled her skepticism and finally... the girl. On their bed. In their bedroom.
"Well its all mine now. All to rot in. Alone." His willingness to give her the house and his offer to pay for the lawyers and offering her alimony was all a roués to keep up his appearance. He hadn’t put up a fight which had confirmed that He'd been all too glad to be rid of her. He’d left her to decay.
K.C took a deep breath as she leaned over the island. Summer was long gone and it was nearing the end of October. The lukewarm weather and green leaves gave no indication of the season.
She pulled the oatmeal out of the microwave, adding slices of bannan and french vanila.
Matt had always said that the Fall was her's. The deep red coloring of her hair as ornate and florid as the ossage leaves during the season, her eyes resilient oaks that stood green, unyielding to nature. Every now and then he'd compare her irises to the fruit itself, claiming one look from her could discourage any man who dared cross a line with her just as the extracts from the Osage Orange repels a bug.
Looking through the glass doors into the back yard, she heard the sound of youth off in the disatnce. The laughter, screaming and playin. she was reminded of an earlier time. When the world had been so simple; everything was black and white, lust at first sight would be the love of your life and there were no complications; only rights and wrongs. In those days her parents still paid the bills and her only worries were boys and passing the upcoming algebra test. She'd missed those days, in fact she di--
Her thoughts were interrupted by the beeping of the pager in her purse.
" Doesn’t anyone understand the meaning of a day off"? She thought.
This was promptly followed by the ringing of her home phone.
"Karen I've been beeping you for the past Thirty minutes"
The other voice was frenzied as if its commander were trapped in an overheated room sweating as he awaited the confirmation of a desolate fate.
"What is a matter Logan? And this better be good"
K.C smiled at the irony of her statement.
"Considering I specifically asked not to be disturbed on my vocation". It would have been repressed to say that she was a bit agitated. "I know you must be nervous but the wheels have got to come off some time-"
She was cut off by the young Resident.
"I understand you aked to have this vocation to yourself. The administrator issued a code orange. We are under staffed. Doctor Biegle is overseas and Wattkherszegn is at his Practice in Mattoon..."
Logan's voice drifted to mumble as she rushed upstairs to dress grabbed her bag and zipped out the door into her Honda

He'd waited after she left. Then he waited another while and examined the house. Even though she was on vocation she had left in a hurry. There was no doubt she was headed to the hospital. He'd watched her for weeks after the divorce was finalized, waiting for the perfect opportunity to snatch her. He was presented with it multiple times but decided to wait as he was still planning. Should he disguise it as an accident or make it look like she’d left on her own? Either way It'd have to be subtle. He did not want to raise suspicion or alarm the media. Whichever the case, it would be on the news soon enough.
