Awkward Conversations

As they showed me their vast home, Alice and Edward talked with me about their lifestyle. Alice was a chatty one, energetic and bursting with excitement. She talked and talked and talked, not even giving me an opening to respond. She told me all about moving all around, like I did, and all the different places they had gone.

I learned that she and Jasper were mates, and so were Emmet and Rosalie. It was already obvious to me that Carlisle and Esme were very much together. The only one who mystified me was Edward.

She whirred on, fluttering to each part of the house, explaining everything. Edward stood by her, a half smile on his lips. As I stared at Alice, busy being amazed that a person could possibly talk so fast, he smirked at me. Throwing a half glance at Alice, he gave me a look which was clearly saying "What can you do?". I grinned in response.

Reaching the end of the hall, Alice pointed out the final room. "That's Edward's room!" She said excitedly.

Edward raised one eyebrow at her, and turned to me. "Finally, I think she may be done speaking, for the time being." He reached past me and opened the door. Striding into the room, he turned around halfway and added, "Do you like music? I have quite a collection, if you are interested."

"Yeah!" Was my enthusiastic answer. That was a lie. Just "Yeah" didn't cover it. Music was one of the only things that kept me going through all these years. So walking into his bedroom was like walking into  heaven. The deep gold walls were smothered my the numerous shelves that hugged the sides of the room.

Rows upon rows of CDs were stacked on those shelves. A soft jazz number was already playing in a very intricate and expensive looking stereo system, one that probably made my face green with envy. Shoved up against the south wall was a bright gold couch, instead of a bed, for obvious reasons. Being a vampire had many pros and cons, and although many would consider not being able to sleep a pro, I sorely missed it at times.

Gliding over to one of the shelves, I curiously eyed one stack of CDs, searching for a familiar title. I let out a soft squeal as I snatched a particular favorite of the shelf. Smiling down at the cover art, I felt like I was holding a dear friend. I was in a way. "Claire De Lune" was the song that got me through my depression, when I felt so alone, ripped out of humanity, I would listen to this and just work through it.

"Claire de Lune? You know Debussy?" Edward said from behind me, sounding surprised. I froze, remembering that I was not alone, and that I was in his room.

I turned around, the CD case still clutched at my chest. "Yes, I've always loved this song. My copy was an original recording, so it stopped working a while ago. It has been a favorite since I was human..  " I trailed off, avoiding Edwards golden gaze by staring at the huge floor to ceiling window, dominating the eastern wall.  I felt him touch my shoulder slightly, a comforting graze of his hand. I looked up at him and smiled.

Edward grinned, a beautiful smile lighting up his whole face. "Finally, someone who knows what I am talking about! Normally I just lock myself in here, muttering and discussing with myself about all the classics. The rest of the family don't really care much. Emmet just stares at me when I try to speak with him about the First Arabesque and the difference the tones are with the piano and the organ, which create a whole other experience!"

"Yes!" I fervently agreed with him. The instrument matters. " I prefer the piano version. It gives the rise and fall of the notes more power, but still making them smooth and light."

"Most definitely." Edward agreed, his golden eyes bright with enthusiasm. "I believe that the piano creates a more pleasurable listen to the-"

"Alright! Piano talk over! Lets introduce Bella to the family." Alice interrupted.
