"Hey, you! Come play with us!" A boy with bright orange hair, about the age of 10 yelled as he saw a girl sitting by herself in the dirt.
"Me?" the girl looked towards him in surprise. A dark brown haired girl ran up beside the boy.
"Yeah, you! Come on! It'll be fun!" she chirped. The children ran towards her.
"But I'm a Soh- I mean, I'm not allowed to play with other kids."
"Why not?"
"It's a rule..."
"Come on, play with us, please? We won't hurt you."
The little girl around the age of 6 was standing distantly from two older children in a park. She hesitantly walked up towards them and looked up.
"You really want to play with me?" she asked. The other children nodded. "What's your name?" the boy asked.
"Umeko..." the child said softly. Starting to warm up to them, the child pushed the boy lightly.
"Tag! You're it!" she yelled, before she ran off. Looking at each other in surprise, they ran after her.
"Hey! That's not fair! Umeko!"
"Umeko!"

"Umeko?""Huh?" a 15 year old girl spun around, her long white hair spinning around her. She dropped the box she was holding, landing painfully on her foot. Dozens of clothes spilled out onto the floor. Cursing colorfully under her breath, she turned around.
"Are you ready to go?" a man in his 20s had opened the sliding door, his kimono slightly slipping off of him. The girl, Umeko, stayed silent as she packed up the remaining clothes from the floor. The man got the message.
"Kureno's waiting for you downstairs." he softly said before existing the room. Umeko picked up the remaining clothes from the floor and her bag and took one last glance at her now empty bedroom. The room where she had spent most of her time in, played in, cried in. The Sohma Estate was truly the only place she would call home. And she felt that was taken away from her as well.
She heard something fall out of her bag. Picking it up, she realized it was her book of drawings she had done when she was younger. All of them contained the other children of the Sohma family, mostly the Cat.
When she moved into the Estate, she overheard from one of the maids that she was somehow related to the cat, marriage wise. Not as cousins, but something closer. Although she did share a few traits with the cat, she never considered herself related. She was only 10 by the time, but she heard every word from the maid. That the cat was a worthless, good for nothing monster. And was never deserved to be in the zodiac. She never believed those words, though. She thought that even the cat should've been allowed in.Unlike her.
In the story, some of the plot was erased out, making it seem that a crow didn't exist in the zodiac. Which should've not.
The crow was (or was going to be) the original rooster in the zodiac, but had a tough role because everyone else saw the bird as a messenger of death. On top of that, the rooster was always suffering an illness that resulted in him remaining a baby sparrow. So feeling desperate, the crow transferred the illness to herself, not knowing that she also took away his role of the rooster into another form of a bird.
At the day of the of the banquet, the crow flew above and saw many animals having a feast with Kami*, including the cat.
