Scaled Guardian

Chapter 1

A boy, named Aallel Hyiob was walking home from school with his friends. He had black hair and green eyes. One of his friends, a girl, had long black hair and purple eyes. The other friend was male with green hair and bluish-purplish eyes. They lived in the world of Azari on the land they called Kaalim. In this world, it's completely natural to have something like green hair. You may be born with purple hair or maybe white. The same thing goes for your eyes. You can end up with any color you can think of as an eye or hair color.

The trio came to a point where Aallel had to separate from them. They said their goodbyes and his friends moved forward on the sidewalk. To the boy's left was an alleyway in between two stores. He had to take this way in order to get to his home. Once his friends were out of sight, he turned towards the mostly empty space in between the buildings and started to walk home. He slowly shoved his hands into his pant pockets. He looked down to the ground where he stared at his moving feet, as there wasn't much else to look at. Just up ahead of the fairly long alley was a brick wall and two paths that went either left or right. Aallel was prepared to go right but he heard a screech-like sound coming from the left path. He looked down the left path, slightly worried of what it could have been, yet also very curious. After a moment of hesitation, he stepped forward, walking down the path where he heard several more of those screeches.

The black-haired male started to walk faster and faster towards the growing noises. He turned and corner and stopped quick. What he saw was a small girl, with dark skin and black hair in pigtails. She looked probably about maybe ten years old. The little girl wore this white, sleeveless dress and a red belt around her waist. There was another girl with her. This one seemed about Aallel's age, around 16 years old. She had white hair that went down around her shoulder blades. These two girls were strange though. They had these long, scaly tails and where their ears would be, was some weird webbed looking things. They also had talons on their hands and scaled wings. They looked very aggressive. A few of these strange shadowy creatures surrounded them. They looked like they were dragons.

Aallel felt stunned seeing what was going on. The shadowy creatures would charge at the two girls and they would end up tearing them apart with their claws. He even saw something that resembled muddy earth being spout out from the smaller girl's mouth. That mud would encase the creatures and solidify. When they were completely covered she would smash them and they would turn into dust and chunky pieces of dirt. Bits of a shadowy smoke would leak from the crushed mess.

The older girl had torn the last of the creatures in half. She then stood up straight and quickly turned to the kid with her. She smiled to her for a second then ran straight for her, giving her a hug.

"Oh! You did so well for your first try!!" The older female yelped happily.

The younger one smiled and laughed, "Really?! Yay!!!"

They both seemed to be sort of celebrating. They stopped and their webbed ear things seemed to twitch for a quick second. The white haired girl looked over to Aallel with white eyes that seemed to have a red slit pupil. Aallel just stood there, staring back at her. Her ears seemed to lower, as if she was going to become aggressive. Her eyes squinted into a glare and she growled a bit. She lifted her scaly wings and, almost in an instant, she was near Aallel. The boy freaked out and ducked, placing his hands over his head. He didn't feel any claws or teeth or anything sink into his flesh though.

Aallel lifted his head and looked behind him. The girl was tearing another one of those shadow-creatures apart. He just stared, almost in awe. When the creature's shadow-like essence dispersed, the girl stood up straight and turned around, looking down at the crouched male.
