A white lie

Work

I physically felt my heart drop and my stomach twist.
"Baby, who? Who said this?"
"Mommy I can't tell you. Mommy I can't. He will kill me. He has a gun like yours" she says
"Sweetie, I promise. I'm not gonna tell anyone. I promise. I pinkie promise with sprinkles and cherries on top" I say wiping the tears from her chubby cheeks
"Hey what's the matter?" Elliot asks as he walks in. He is now fully dressed.
Eden just bursts into tears. I wrap my arms around her and rock her back and forth.
"It's okay, it's okay baby. You can come to work with me okay. You will be safe there. I promise. I promise baby"
Elliot looks at me as if he hasn't a clue what's going on.

We arrive at work a few minutes late.
"Capt, can I have a word?" I ask, carrying my baby on my hip.
"Yeah sure"
I follow him into his office and we all sit down.
"Hey Eden. How are you" he asks
She doesn't reply. She holds her teddy in one hand and my arm in the other.
"Eden, do you wanna tell uncle Don what happened?" I ask
She shakes her head.
"You told me this morning that you didn't want to go into school didn't you?"
She nods
"And then I asked why. And you said you can't tell me what happened, b..because, he would, kill you?"
I can't get the words out without my voice cracking.
She nods
"She won't tell me what happened though" I mouth to Cragen.
"Hey Eden. Do you want to tell me?" He asks
She shakes her head.
"Okay, do you want to tell daddy?"
She shakes her head again.
"How about you tell auntie Amanda?" I suggest.
Amanda Rollins, the new detective who started just a few years ago. She is really nice, and seems to really like Eden.
"Okay" she whispers
"Okay baby. Well I'll go let Amanda know, and you can tell her okay sweetie?"
She nods.
I pick her up and carry her outside into the squad room.
"Amanda, can I speak to you please?" I ask
"Yes serg, hey Eden!" She says running her fingers through my daughters long brown hair.
"Hi Amanda" she says
"Hey honey, what's wrong?" She asks with her southern accent.
"That's what I wanted to talk to you about"
I take Eden into the children's interview room. She sits down at the desk and plays with her teddy.
"Serg, what's going on!?" She asks again
"Yeah, babe. What's up with Eden?" Elliot asks
I explain what she told me to them. Seeing Elliot's reaction broke my heart. He loves that girl more than life. So do I. I can't think of what I would do, to the person who hurt her...
