The squealing and laughing died down after a few minutes, everyone was damp but the awkward atmosphere had disappeared as we all giggled at each other.

"That's enough Lara!" Jaye said, still soothing but with angry undertones "You scared us all half to death, that's not okay!"

"Oh Jaye please, it was a joke. To liven up this funeral of a course." Lara scoffed.

Jaye ignored her comment and composed himself again. He exhaled but then managed a small smile, seemingly genuine. "Well. None the less, I'm glad you've joined us."

"What? And miss 'Hope and healing for LGBT+ Teens'? Never!" Lara said sarcastically.

Jaye walked back to his pillow "Grab a cushion and join us Lara, try and take it a little seriously."

"Aye aye!" Lara said with a salute.

She strolled over to the container with the cushions and picked one up, she scanned the circle of people, choosing someone. I thought she might sit next to Katrina, she was very striking with smooth ebony skin and big, dancing eyes. Or maybe Jaye, just to mess with him more. I glanced over to her direction only to find she was coming towards me. My pulse jumped.

"S'okay if I sit here?" Lara asked sucking in her lips and raising an eyebrow.

"Yeah." I said a little shakily.

She plopped her pillow down and sat down, she was close enough that I could smell her. She smelled fresh like washing detergent but mixed with cigarette smoke. When she noticed I was staring at her she winked at me and I felt the blood rush to face, I felt warm and giddy.

"I'm Lara." She said offering me a strip of spearmint gum "Yourself?"

"Sloane." I replied taking a piece and putting it in my mouth, her eyes fell to my mouth and I felt a little uncomfortable, but mostly bashful under her gaze.

"Pleasure." Lara smirked.

Jaye rumbled on charismatically in the background but I couldn't focus with Lara beside me. I was drawn to her, both her appearance and the shocking entrance she had made no more than five minutes ago. She was the most interesting thing in the room and deserved my attention.

"So what're you doing here?" Lara asked as she bent over a little to look at my face. "Something to do with the lip?"

"Yeah, some girls busted my lip. My mum promised if I went to this course she'd leave the police out of it." I answered focusing in on her eyes, they were an inky sapphire colour.

"Yikes. Overprotective mum?" Lara inquired.

"Something like that, now she has a gay daughter she's a martyr for the cause, no queer will go unhelped." I replied with a short laugh.

Lara ducked her head and laughed. "That's cute."

Her laugh was sharp and playful. It made me a little breathless. I couldn't deny I thought she was special. I'd met her five minutes before and already she enticed me. She omitted an effortless, mellow attitude. I wanted her to like me.

"Yeah, it could be a whole lot worse...so what about you Lara? Why are you here?" I asked leaning in a little closer to her.

"Well Sloane, if you must know, I broke some guy's nose for being a homophobic ass." Lara announced proudly "Since the school refuses to admit he was in the wrong I was sent here. Again."

"Regular customer huh?"

"Oh, you bet sweetheart!" Lara beamed. "Hey I should team up with your mum, we could take down the degenerates together!"
