Chapter 8

Arlenes P.O.V.

Me and Sarah we're going to have a girls night while the guys were doing their show. Lou offered to watch Ana while we were out so she could play with little Lux.

This is all I needed a night out with my sister. Sarah hasn't told me where we were going. She said she wants it to be a surprise.

I was wearing a red polka dot crop top a grey skirt and red bead bracelet my white converse my white pastel nails my hair split in the middle with one of those weird dangly things and my hold the phone case. (Picture on the side)

When it was time to go we went through the back. We got in a cab and Sarah whispered the direction. She said I'd be about 30 minutes or so.

"So what do you think of the 5sos boys?" She asks.
"They're cool and stupidly funny." I said laughing at the memory of Michael falling asleep on the couch and the other guys drawing on his face and making fun of him.
"Well since we don't have little ears listening in now what's going on with Calum?" She asks.
"Dude calm yo tatas nothing is going on!" I answer back.
"Mhm whatever." She says giving me a knowing look.

Okay I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel a twinge of feelings for Calum. I mean come on he's adorable! His dimples are irresistible. But nothing big comes to mind.

I want to ask Sarah how she's handling all the Tom stuff I mean it's only been like 2 days since the incident. He tried calling her but I took her phone.

Annabel doesn't really seem fazed by anything going on because she doesn't understand. I mean it's better that way. She doesn't need to know the person she look up to and loves is a complete monster. That'd ruin her childhood.

I realize she's gonna have to live without a dad since there is no way in hell were letting Tom get custody of her. Never in a million years!

I know it's gonna be hard I know how it feels growing up without a dad. On the first day of school seeing everyone else's dad there wishing them the best and all you do is walk in because mom was working and couldn't stay with you until class started. All the father daughter dances. Getting the flyer but throwing it away later that day.

But Sarah is still young she'll find someone that'll be a good dad for Ana I know it.

"Arlene!" Sarah's voice snaps me out of my thoughts and I realize I've been in my own little world this entire time.
"Yes..?"
"Hurry get out were here!"

She pays the cab and we walk into a restaurant. I look around and see a very familiar face sitting alone with two other empty seats.

My best friend Amanda! I run over to her and hug her while practically squishing her. It had only been 3 days since I'd last seen her but it felt like an eternity in my world.

"What are you doing here dood?" I asked her.
"Sarah invited me to come eat dinner with y'all." She says. I turn to Sarah and smile and get up and go hug her.
"Thanks sis!" I whisper.
"No problem now let's sit down before we get kicked out, it's a fancy pants restaurant." She whispers.
I look around and realize it is all fancy and I'm getting weird glances from people around us. Whoops! I quickly sit down next to Amanda.

I look at the menu and don't understand anything. It's times like these that I just wanna go back to being the Nandos Queen! I finally decide to get a stake well done and a Coke.

During dinner we just messed around and laughed. When we were done it was around 8:30p.m. I had to say bye to Amanda for 2 months since we were flying to America tomorrow afternoon.

"Bye shit face." I say below a whisper before hugging her.
"Bye boobooface." She says hugging back.

It might seem like it's not a big deal. Two months isn't a lot. But weve known each other since we were 5. And we've been inseparable since 6th grade. We did everything together and now we won't see each other for TWO WHOLE MONTHS. That's like a life time to us. She's like my second sister.

She gets into her car while me and Sarah wait for a cab.

When it gets here she whispers another direction. Oh it's not over yet I guess.

It takes less than 10 minutes to get there. When we get there she covers my eyes but when she opens the door I hear waves and the weird scent of salt water. She pays the cab then uncovers my eyes.

I look around and my eyes start to water. I turn and hug her, crying into her shirt not caring if my make up gets smudged. She hugged me and I felt tears falling onto the top of my head and I knew she was crying too.

She brought us to the beach our dad would take us to when we were younger.

"I miss him Sarah! It's been 11 years and I still remember every detail." I said into her shirt.

"I miss him too Arlene but you know what mom says, he's in a better place now." She whispers into my hair.

When I was 7,Liam was about 9 or 10 and Sarah was 13 our dad was in a horrible plantation explosion. We were all in school and our mom pulled us out and drove to our dads job. He worked as a plantation owner it turns out that they hit the wrong gas pipe and the entire thing went up in flames. We were all waiting outside of the plantation trying to see if our dad was coming out. Many smoke covered workers made their way out and sighs of relief from family was heard. After two hours of waiting we knew he was gone. I immediately started crying I surprisingly knew what was going on even though I was 7 I knew he'd never come back.

He used to bring the entire family to Brinxton Beach every Sunday, after he died we stopped going completely until now. I'm standing here looking into the ocean sat next to my older sister imagining our father sitting next to us telling us one of his many stories.

After he died mom had to work two jobs to get us through all the debt. We would rarely see her only on Sunday but she spent it catching up on sleep. Sarah was the one that pretty much raised me and Liam. We were still very grateful of our mother. She still managed to go to every important meeting at school and be mom and dad. I don't think we'll ever be able to repay her for everything she did for us.

Wind blows through our hair and I'd like to think that's our dads way of telling us he's here with us, keeping us under his wing and just taking care of his baby girls even up from heaven. I smile and turn to Sarah to see her smiling too with her eyes closed.

I pull out my phone and check the time it's 10:30. Wow we've spent almost two hours here.

"Sarah I think it's time to go it's 10:32." I whisper not wanting to ruin the peace.
"Ugh okay let's get going. Call a cab." She says.

I get my phone out again and order a cab.

The cab gets here and we get in and stare out the window wishing to be back in the spot where we used to lay safely in our dads arms.

I sigh and turn and look at the street in front of us and manage to fall asleep.
