Matt walked through the forest, admiring the ender pearl he had recently obtained. It was his most treasured object. The highly polished surface refracted the sunlight in beautiful rays that made the fresh snow look like it was embedded with a thousand tiny crystals. It was the first time he had been successful fighting an enderman, and he was very pleased about it.
Abruptly, he stopped. In front of him was a sign. Silently he read it to himself, his lips mouthing the words:
Since spawn
A year passed
Your party has
Arrived at last
“It’s my birthday today!” Matt realised. But where was the party? He looked up and saw another sign.
Time for you
To find a cave
With many mobs
Be very brave
Matt looked around, and smiled when he saw a large opening in a stone cliff. The way was dark, but holding a torch in one hand and a sword in the other, he was able to see where he was going. He saw a group of zombies and snorted. This was going to be easy.
Suddenly, a pair of spiders ambushed him from the ceiling, and Matt fell back, startled. As he struggled to get up, he heard the unmistakable sound of a creeper hissing. The explosion knocked him right into the midst of the zombie pack.
There wasn’t enough time to try and get up. As the zombies advanced, Matt kicked them away with his feet, and slashed blindly with his iron sword. Thankfully the spiders seemed to have disappeared, but the danger was still very much there. However, Matt eventually managed to fight them off. They were just zombies, after all. He got to his feet and dusted himself off, cautiously advancing on his quest.
When he had ventured deep into the depths of the cave, it merged into an abandoned mineshaft. Matt walked the empty wooden walkways, making sure to avoid the spawners. As the mineshaft intersected with a ravine, Matt spied a chest. When he opened it, the only object inside was a book titled, ‘The final stretch’.
You’ve come far. All you must do now is get to the other side of this ravine. Good luck.
Matt looked up. The other side wasn’t that far away. He dropped down into a pool of water, and slowly started making his way across. On his way, he saw iron, redstone, and even the alluring glimmer of diamond. However, he could also see the glowing red eyes of the spiders that had left him alone earlier, closely guarding the precious ore. Matt continued on his journey.
Finally, he touched the cold stone of the other side. Matt saw a small opening in the rock, and slipped through, only to be confronted by a huge lava lake. He gulped. That was when he remembered the ender pearl. He took the precious item. He only had one, so he had to make it count. Closing his eyes, he drew his arm back, and threw it as hard as he could.
When he opened them again, he had arrived safely on the other side. “Our special guest is here!” someone shouted, and Matt felt himself being lifted into the air.
“Happy birthday!” everyone chorused, and Matt smiled. He had found his birthday party.
