Before him, all I saw was black and white.
The world was monochrome, boring, and meaningless.
I could only sense what was practical and physical.
But when we touched, everything changed.
I saw the blue blanket that covered the earth.
The rainbows of color sprinkled on the grass.
My stomach fluttered with butterflies
Cheeks tinted with pink and red.
My heartbeat was no longer steady.
My voice spoke at a higher pitch.
I saw the beauty in everything.
I saw the beauty in him.
-
We shared the finest memories
exchanged the deepest of secrets
and made the best of inside jokes.
My cheeks would hurt from smiling,
my stomach aching from laughter
I could finally feel happiness
-
But then he told me "We should stop"
That it was not my fault, it was his.
Sadly, I saw behind those lies.
Stopping meant we were no longer.
I could no longer see his face.
I will no longer be the cause of that whimsical smile and joyful laughter.
But I nod anyways, choking out an "okay" in the calmest way possible.
As I watch him walk away
His tall figure grows smaller, fading from my line of sight.
My heart begins to sink and the butterflies disappear one by one.
The colors began to fade
And now the world is grey.
