(Re)Making Love: A Memoir
By: Mary L. Tabor (Wattpad author)
4 Hearts out of 5
Summary from Amazon:
When Mary L. Tabor's husband of 21 years announced, "I need to live alone," she cratered and turned to the only comfort she had left: her writing. What resulted was (Re)MAKING LOVE: a sex after sixty story, a fresh, witty, funny and brutally honest memoir of everything she felt and did during her long journey back to happiness. This deeply personal account of her saga takes the reader from Washington, DC to Missouri to Australia through the good, the bad and the foolish from Internet dating to outlandish flirting and eventually to Paris where an unexpected visitor changed the author's life forever. Her story offers hope and joy told with passion and brilliance that is highly refreshing with the single and most prominent message—it is never too late to find love—and oneself even after age sixty and beyond. Memoirs were never my thing, but this one surely made me want to start one of my own. Here's why:
Our author tells her story so thoroughly and truthfully, that it's hard to turn away from this story. In easiest words, she says the things we're all afraid to. Tabor gives such a real account of what happened after her husband of 21 years leaves her that you begin to feel as if she is your best friend. She tells all the little details and doesn't sugarcoat a thing.
The author's raw honesty and ability to connect to the speakers brings this story to live and gives it the chance to make people attached to it. As soon as I started to read this story I wanted to know more and more and couldn't stop reading it. It was heartbreaking for the most part, but you are able to see how this woman builds herself back up and stay's strong through it all. Her most influential line to me is, "Men and women in love MUST be friends," and I think this sentence sums up the importance behind this story, and where it may have gone wrong.
Now don't think this story is all about the downsides of having her husband leaving because it's not! You see her reinvent herself, and proves to her readers that age is essentially the epitome of when your life begins. As she's gotten older, her life is proving things to herself that she never thought possible. She's funny, honest, and a completely loveable writer. Nothing is hidden, and I think that's why so many people have fallen in love with this story. So many, that it was declared the Wattys 2014 winner, and this book was actually published under it's new name, (Re)MAKING LOVE: a sex after sixty story.
Every line is so intriguing. She takes you on her journey through life, and that's something that I admire. Read this story to find out if she finds love again, who may change her life forever, and how badly online dating can go.
I recommend this book to anyone looking for a refreshing read. I never read anything like this, but now I tell EVERYONE about it. The passion within her writing is one thing, but the truth of it all is another. I hope you all take a chance and read (Re)Making Love: A Memoir.
I will see you all soon!
