She was staring at the ceiling of the inside of their plane noticing the pretty imitation stars on the ceiling. It was night and there was no point in looking out the window at clouds because everything looks black as tar. Alissa raised her seat so she was sitting up instead of leaning back and began looking for her head phones.

"Alright ladies and gentlemen this is your captain speaking. The plane is going to land in approximately 20 minutes so if you wouldn't mind buckling up your seat belts and remaining seated until said otherwise. Thank you and thank you for flying with American Airlines."

Finally, she thought. She had been on the plane for about 3 hours but it felt like 30 hours. She was sitting on the window seat and there was an older man beside her, he looked about 40 and had black hair but you could tell the grey was coming in and he's been trying to cover it with some kind of cheap spray-on hair dye. He didn't pay much attention to her so she didn't even bother asking him to move so she could use the restroom, so she didn't go. She got her headphones out of her bag and plugged her phone in then turned on breezeblocks by alt-j and went to sleep for the remaining 20 minutes.

"Ma'am? Ma'am?"

She heard some voice in her ear and it was bugging her so she swatted at the sound, but turned out she actually smacked the hostess' face.

"Huh? What was that? What did I hit?" she said eyes half closed, "Oh my god! Did I hit you?" she panicked.

"Yes ma'am. It's fine, really. But the plane has landed and if you don't mind, would you please collect your luggage and make your way out of the plane."

She stared at the lady like she was talking a different language but finally the words made sense.

"Oh I need to leave? Oh my god I'm so sorry. How long have I been here?" she worriedly asked.

"It's only been a couple of minutes ma'am. Don't worry but if you wouldn't mind-"

"No! I totally understand. I'm really sorry. I just- I was gonna-, wait what was I saying?" she said in a cluster of words. "Right. Well I'm just gonna go." she said making her way around the hostess.

She grabbed her red suitcase from the overhead storage and made her way out of the airplane.

Geez. I fell asleep that quick? I'm usually up all hours of the night. Oh well, she thought as she left the plane.

Seconds later, she stepped into the Japanese airport and was completely amazed. Never before had she ever seen such a colorful place. The stores were bright and fun, there were a million different food places, or they looked like food places, but none of the signs were in English.

She spun around slowly looking at all the bright lights and noticed a window, it was huge and overlooked a beautiful city, which she didn't know the name of because, well, it was in Japanese. She ran over to the window suitcase in hand and pressed herself against the window looking at the glory of the city. The sky was so dark and the lights and signs contrasting against it made it more beautiful sight than anything she had ever seen in America. She stared for a whole 30 seconds watching the people go from the airport and leaving to their loved ones. She was upstairs looking down on the magnificent entrance, which may as well have been to a castle it was so fancy, so she could only imagine the pleasantries they were giving each other. She also watched the people coming, watching them say "Good bye" and "I love you" and "We'll always remember you, don't forget us." Seeing these people meant nothing to her because she knew she would never see them again. In. Out. In. Out. That's how it goes. She noticed something odd that everyone was accompanied by someone or was meeting someone or leaving them. She looked from family to family seeing tears and pain but also happiness. Maybe not from the family but from the traveler she could tell right when they turned around from that last hug from their friend that this was the beginning of a whole new chapter and they were free of any burdens they had while they were there. She was just about to turn around when she saw someone walking alone.
