The next day, both of them slept late. It was about twelve noon when Sonic opened his eyes. He smiled at the sleeping fox next to him, before getting up, quietly. He walked into the theatre, his white socks padding softly against the polished wooden floor. Picking up the console, he resumed the next level of the game he'd been playing before. He beat about three levels, when his entire world suddenly went black.
"Guess who?"
Sonic chuckled.
"Very funny, Tails."
The two tailed fox sat down next to the hedgehog, watching him play in silence. Sonic wasn't one for quietness, but the silence was comfortable.
There was a sudden buzzing noise, and Sonic's ears pricked.
"What was that?" He asked aloud.
"What was what?" Tails returned.
Sonic shook his head.
"Nothing...I thought I heard something."
Resuming the game, he brushed it off as nothing. A minute later, he heard it again.
"There it is again," he muttered.
Suddenly, he heard something else. There was a little whirring noise, along with the buzzing, and there was one more thing. There was a high pitched, cold, cruel laugh.
"Tails," Sonic said, seriously.
"Y-Yeah?"
"Go hide. Now."
Tails nodded, and took off out of the theatre. Sonic cracked his knuckles, and raced up the stairs. He opened the door, and jumped off the porch. There stood his worst enemy, with one huge robot, and Eggman, in his Eggmobile. He smirked.
"There you are, you ignorant little pincushion," he said. "I've been looking for you."
"Yeah. And I've been waiting for you," Sonic replied simply.
Eggman let out that same laugh Sonic had heard earlier.
"Tell me, Sonic. Why're you up here?"
"Vacation, McNosehair. What else?
"You're not...hiding Tails from me?"
Sonic shrugged.
"Dude, I don't even know where Tails is."
"He didn't tell you where he was going?"
"He never does, baldy."
"That's so interesting," Eggman said sarcastically. "If I recall properly, your little friends said you were on vacation together."
Sonic shrugged again.
"My friends always lie to you, doc. It's either to protect somebody or to shut you up."
"Tell me, hedgehog," Eggman began. "If Tails took the X-Tornado, wouldn't he be back home already? He built it to be fast, didn't he?"
"How would I know?" Sonic said, innocently. "I've been here all week."
"You imbecile!" Eggman finally yelled. "How dumb do you think I am! I know Tails is in there, and I'm not leaving here without my weapon, or his dead body!"
"You wanna get to Tails?" Sonic challenged. "You gotta get past me."
Eggman smirked.
"With pleasure."
With a slam of a button, the huge robot started to attack. Sonic jumped out of its way, and did a quick spin dash into it's right foot. It sparked and exploded, sending bits of purple metal everywhere.
One down, one more to go.
The robot swiped at the blue blur, but he quickly got out of the way of that, too. He spun dashed the left foot.
Both down.
Sonic now had a clear advantage. With the robot having movement difficulty, he could destroy it with ease. Eggman was silently beginning to get nervous. He quickly made adjustments through his controller. Sonic, seeing this, quickly dashed into the cockpit. The glass cracked, and he'd struck a nerve. Suddenly, something green glowed under one of the robot's arms, and spread all the way down it's side.
Aha! The main power source. It's greatest weakness. Sonic tried to spin dash it again, but the metal was too strong for a breakthrough.
Eggman laughed evilly.
"You're pitiful!" He called down. "You've gotten weak since you left! You can't even spin dash anymore! Without it, you have nothing! Hahaha!"
Sonic suddenly smiled.
"That's what you think."
He shut his eyes, and concentrated. All seven of the Chaos Emeralds appeared.
"WHAT?!" Eggman screamed. "I-It can't be!"
"But it is," Sonic replied, as the gems surrounded him. "We're gonna do things the hard way, Eggman. We're gonna do things..."
The emeralds now formed a rainbow aura, and the colors swirled around the hedgehog.
"SUPER SONIC STYLE!"
Sonic, now in his super form, blasted straight through the main power source. The bright green glow dimmed, and then vanished completely. The robot exploded into bits, making Eggman fall from his craft. He fell in front of Sonic, who was still in super form. Eggman looked up, terrified. Sonic looked down at him, and then did something out of complete and utter anger.
He grabbed his sworn enemy by the throats, and held him up. Eggman tired desperately to escape the Orion grip, but it had no avail.
"Listen to me, you fat tub of lard," Sonic growled. "If you ever, and I mean ever, threaten Tails ever again, I'll end you. I'll kill you. I'll make you suffer that way you've made us suffer. Are we clear?"
Eggman quickly nodded, and Sonic dropped him.
"Now," he continued, "get out of my sight and out of here before I escort you."
Eggman, now truly scared, jumped into his Eggmobile and flew off. Sonic watched as he became a tiny dot in the distance, and his fur changed back to blue. He walked casually back into the house, ignoring all the pieces of metal everywhere.Sonic opened the door of the cabin.
"Tails?" He called. "Everything's okay. You can come out, now."
There was the sound of something meeting the floor, and Tails jumped into his arms, where they were both immediately joined in a lip lock. This kiss was probably the deepest one they'd had yet, and it when on for awhile. When they finally separated, Tails hugged him, hard.
"Sonic...you did it!"
"Why wouldn't I?" Sonic said, still catching his breath from the kiss. "I told you I'd never let him hurt you again. And I meant it."
"Ugh!" Tails cried, throwing his arms around his other. "Ugh...I love you so much!"
"I love you too," Sonic grinned. "Now, now that it's safe, whaddya say we go take the plane for a spin?"
Tails smiled and grabbed his hand.
"Now you're talking."Sonic stood on the wing of the X-Tornado as Tails flew it. The plane suddenly gave a sharp jerk, causing Sonic to slip, and fall off the wing.
"Ohmygosh!" He cried, feeling the wind rush last him as he fell. "Taaaaaiiilllsss!"
Then, he felt the strong metal support beneath his feet as the X-Tornado held him on it's wing once more. Sonic turned to the young fox pilot, and Tails smiled.
"C'mon," he said, sweetly. "Don't you trust me?"
"Of course I do!" Sonic replied. "But, why did you do that?"
"Well, do you trust me?"
"Why wouldn't I?"
Sonic looked a little hurt at this point about Tails's lack of trust in him. Tails smiled.
"I know you trust me. Would I ever let you fall?"
Sonic smiled at him.
"And trust me," Tails continued, "if anyone would be falling, it'd be me taking it for you."
"Same here, buddy."
Today...Tomorrow...Always.
Until I take the fall for real.
