Gilbert and Matthew drive up to the school. There is no turning back now. Once they make it through the doors, the two are immediately bombarded by people that want to see Matthew's 'friend.' After a series of introductions, the two go to the corner. Matthew wasn't usually the type to dance at these things; except for the cupid shuffle and cha-cha slide. other than that, he would hang out in the corners and try to talk to people. Gilbert had other plans, however. He takes Matthew's hand and leads him toward the dance floor. Matthew smiled sheepishly up at the tall man. "I'm really a terrible dancer."Gilbert smiles back and takes Matthew's hands and helps him try to dance. Mattie replies with a chuckle and lets himself be led in the dance.

After the song is over, the DJ plays a slow dance and Gilbert leads them in a slow dance. Mattie tries to wrap his arms around Gilbert's neck. It was hard because of the height difference.Nonetheless, they both enjoy the moment. Mattie leans his head on Gilbert's chest, listening to his heartbeat. They both swayed along to the song, never wanting the moment to end. One of Mattie's friends tried to take a picture of them, with the flash on. At first he was afraid it was a spotlight, but once he say it was his friend, he brushes it off and focuses on Gilbert. This was Mattie's first slow dance, and he was so glad it was with him. When the song ends, they reluctantly pull away. Then they go to the photo booth and take pictures together. There were all sorts of props to choose from, like crowns, turkey hats, viking hats, etc.

When the end of the night came around, neither one wanted it to end. "That was the most fun I've had in a long while. Thanks for inviting me Birdie." Gilbert says once they get in the car. "It was the most fun I've had in a while too. Thank you for coming with me." They drove back to Mattie's house and Gilbert came in for a moment. "So are we like, a thing now?" Mattie asks, not quite sure how this whole dating thing worked. He was just surprised that Gilbert could see him AND would talk to him. "We could be a thing. I'd like to be a thing. Would you?" Mattie was in such bliss. His crush liked him back. "Y-Yeah. I'd like that, too." Mattie wanted to show Gilbert one of his most prized possessions: his guitar. So he ran to find his guitar. He couldn't play it yet, but he was working on it. What happened next was a complete surprise to Matthew. Gilbert picked it up, tuned it, and played the guitar for him. Before Gilbert left for the night, they did an awkward hug, but Mattie could hear his heart beating rapidly. 'What is he thinking about that would cause his heart to beat so fast?' The answer would never be known, because he left soon after that. That night, all Mattie could do was smile. He was the happiest he has been in a long while.
