The lights in the bedroom were dimmed, but Leanne had plugged in the Christmas lights that she and her sister had put up a few years ago. They lit up the whole room in a nice and cosy atmosphere, helping to remove any possible awkwardness. Also, the smell of cinnamon and honey were hanging in the air, but that was because a cold wind breezed through the room, letting a smell come from the leaf-shaped scented candle wax bits that were in Leanne's room. It was a very nice smell and fitted in the dim lit – and a tad cold – room.
Keep me warm inside our bed
I got dreams of you all through my head
Nieke sat down on her bed, legs dangling from the front. Leanne was already sitting on the pillow-side of the bed, knees pulled up and a blanket over her body. They weren't touching each other. Leanne's hand was softly stroking the blanket, not knowing what to do, but trying not to set an awkward mood. But it was awkward. There was a heavy tension in the air. But they decided to ignore it. Leanne's eyes were closed. while stroking the blanket, and she did not notice Nieke looking at her in awe. Nieke thought that she was a beautiful girl, and she was amazed by the way Leanne insisted she wasn't. She was amazed how easily Leanne dismissed a lot of compliments about her body or personality. Nieke had told her a few times how beautiful she thought Leanne was, but Leanne had just brushed it off every time. Leanne didn't believe it. Leanne thought the same about Nieke though, just more low-key. She hadn't been the best at emotional and caring rants towards others lately, only selfish outings from bad nights and random thoughts. But Leanne appreciated and loved Nieke's whole, sharing with the people around her how cute and tiny Nieke was.
Come to me with secrets bare
I'll love you more so don't be scared.
In the background, you could hear Leanne's 'calming' playlist. Nieke didn't mind it. It wasn't normally her type of music, but she didn't mind. She didn't mind a lot when it came to Leanne, another thing Leanne was intrigued by. They both loved each other so much.
Nieke slowly moved her hand from the blanket to Leanne's hand, softly touching it. Leanne's eyes opened, and she looked at Nieke's brown eyes. Leanne didn't think Nieke's brown eyes were dull, she thought they were alive and beautiful.
I'm not a stranger
No I am yours
It was a silent question of 'Are you okay?'. Leanne just looked at Nieke, her eyes not showing emotions. For those minutes, she was numb. She was having a bad night, Nieke knew that, but Leanne also had told her. Nieke just didn't know how bad it had been. That Leanne had yet again been in a fight with herself, to be selfish or not to be selfish. She eventually choose to be selfish, and right now she was in the aftermath.
Nieke had decided to come over after Leanne had mentioned she was home alone and after she'd 'confessed' she was having a bad night. Nieke didn't want her to be alone. It was the first time she came over on a 'bad night', instead of just reading the rants Leanne usually wrote to her during bad nights or the dramatic pleas of Nieke leaving Leanne before it was too late, because Leanne didn't want a burden. Their parents were – very luckily – okay with it.
Leanne knew why Nieke wanted to come over. She loved Nieke for wanting to, for the fact that she cared. When Nieke was brought to her home, it wasn't like Nieke had found Leanne in a compromising position, but Nieke knew she shouldn't trust Leanne at that moment. She had said she was okay again, but Nieke knew better. Nieke knew that under the blanket Leanne was under, she still was shaking and holding her arms. Nieke wanted to hold her. Badly. But she didn't. She didn't know if Leanne wanted to be held, or to be touched. She hadn't pulled away when Nieke touched her hand, though. Leanne didn't know if she wanted to be touched – or held – either. She wanted to be held close to someone, feeling the warmth of a body wrapped around her, but at the same time, she wanted to keep away from everyone and everything.
