Starting Out

I joined S.F not long after I told Uncle Johnny how I felt. It was an overwhelming experience, I must admit that. There was such a long and hard training process that I needed to go through and it was tough. I was told it was going to be. Night after night, I was so glad that I had the barracks where I could sleep, even if it was for only a few hours. And by the end of it, I think Dad was proud of me.

He came to the ceremony dressed his best and even smiled when he saw me in my uniform. Uncle Johnny couldn't cheer because his jaw was busted, but he did his best to smile for me. He always does. Aunt Sonya gave me my badge and told me that because I had training in mechanics and engineering, that I could help make new weapons that would enhance my fight style. Of course, the first thing I wanted to do was make some of the gauntlets I designed in the first grade.

When I drew them out I didn't realize how many flaws they had, but with time and application of the lessons that I had leaned in school, and a few from the soldiers who knew a thing or two mechanics really helped me out. Within three months I had my first pair ready to train with.

I also began to hear about getting a new recruit, but a foreigner. The Special Forces had become international with the event of Shinnok's, but from what I heard, the soldiers usually stayed in their country. They had specific training regimes that weren't supposed to be shared, but at the time I was sure it was a rumor. It wasn't until the kid (or co-worker) arrived that I wasn't so sure that he was a random kid from Asia.

He looked tough although he didn't know how to use a gun, he was amazing at hand to hand combat. He preferred knives too for some reason. Uncle Johnny said he was special and it was easy to tell. His fight style was not one of the modern types I had seen. He also seemed a bit upset, almost like he didn't want to be here, or it was a hard decision to. I wanted to talk to him, but Auntie Sonya that he was off limits for the time being.

"He's still working on his English, but for the most part he's got it. He's got some personal issues that he's got to work out with Cage, but for the most part, he'll be a great addition to a squadron."

"Auntie, why is here if he's got issues? I thought you said to leave 'em behind if we were gonna fight here?" I was generally curious. This guy must have been a special case.

"It's different with him Briggs. He wasn't a soldier before he came here. But I'll let him tell you his story once he's done with Cage, because after that, you'll be showing him around and teaching him our training regime."

I nodded, knowing that it would be a big responsibility, but I was willing to take it.
