They say that your bedroom was the safest and most comfortable place in your house, but here he was again, lying on his stiff bed, staring at the ceiling. It's about 1 o'clock in the morning (way passed his bedtime) and Oikawa was still awake. Why was he still awake passed midnight?

Well, he's an insomniac, or that's what he concluded.

Despite not having the brightest mind, he knew something was wrong. No one at his age lies restless in their bed at this heavenly hour. No one at his age has the same reoccurring nightmares every night.

He hadn't say a word to his parents because then, he would have to go to the doctors, and, from past experiences, he hates going there. So Oikawa, (a very sneaky little kid) managed to find the password to his dad's computer and, with the access to the internet, he searched it up.

Insomnia
noun
habitual sleeplessness; inability to sleep

symptoms:
-find it difficult to fall asleep
-lie awake for long periods at night
-wake up several times during the night
-wake up early in the morning and not be able to get back to sleep
-not feel refreshed when you get up
-find it hard to nap during the day, despite feeling tired
-feel tired and irritable during the day and have difficulty concentrating

Well... in class this morning, he was having some trouble keeping his eyes open when the teacher was explaining something...

"In-som-nee-a," Oikawa said quietly to himself.

He imagined insomnia like a vicious creature, with red beady eyes and sharp teeth. The image reminded him some of the horror stories he overheard from his classmates. Oikawa had really, really hoped that he depicted it wrong.

It had seemed the world and the universe must've hated him because his portrayal was scarily accurate. The monster lurks in his dream every night, ready to frighten poor Oikawa out of his skin. What's worse (when he's awake) was that it also waits patiently on the crown of his head in preparation for 'operation scare-the-hell-out-of-Oikawa'

Fortunately, after a couple of weeks, he now knows how to cope with Insomnia(apart from its terrifying nightmares it gives him) and taught his body to stay awake as much as possible. However, it does come with a few downsides.

1) he's always tired
2) his body doesn't react as fast as before.
3) (the MOST important) his very pretty face is now ruined because of the bags forming underneath his eyes.

The third downside was worrying for Oikawa - how is he going to refresh his beautiful face? Also(another great point):
how is he going to hide the fact he wasn't getting enough sleep? He'd hate to see the day when his parents found out.

All of a sudden, there were some shuffling and quiet whispers outside of his bedroom door - it was his parents.

Oikawa swiftly slipped in his duvet covers and tightly screwed his eyes shut. Keep awake eyes, keep awake. He repeated over and over in his head. He doesn't want to return in his horrible slumber - not again.

Soon, the noise died down and disappeared. Oikawa came out of his cave, sighing in relief. Thank God that he didn't fall asleep.

Another noise was made, this time it was a clank which came from down-stairs. What were his parents doing - having a midnight snack? That was a bit strange of them to wake up in the very early morning just to- Oh.

He was wrong. His parents went away for the night so they weren't here eating leftovers from the fridge. Oikawa shivered with fear as the realisation hit him. There was only 4 possible reasons:

a) he was hallucinating

b) his parents came home early and they were actually here

c) a ghost was hungry and went to get a snack in the kitchen

d) an intruder was in the house

None of the reasons seemed particularly great.
