I watched as a metal shield lowered over the door to protect the people inside the ship from extreme heat or cold. I just sat there thinking. I finally got up to poke around the ship and find the kitchen. We'd toured one of these ships once during school.
I found the door to the kitchen no problem, it was what was in the kitchen was the problem.
I opened the door and then nearly jumped out of my skin and started screaming my head off. There was a boy, about a year older than me, standing in the middle of the kitchen and eating a pack of saltines. He turned around and saw me standing there (screaming of course) and was so surprised that he dropped his crackers, that went and scattered all over the floor.
"Who the heck are you!" I yelled.
"I'm John, John Romenson, I was an intern on this ship and I couldn't get out of the ba...this one room so I wasn't able to get off when the alarm sounded."
I stared at him for a moment, "You got locked in the bathroom?"
His face turned as red and he said,"So? Don't ever lock the door. It takes you at least ten minutes to figure out which way to turn the lock."
"Whatever. Do you know where this ship is going?"
"Well, I do and I don't." He said, "We were going on a test flight to...some planet that started with a P. Then, I heard one of the engineers yell that something was going wrong with the navigation system and the ship was gonna explode and stuff, so they ordered an evacuation. So my guess is that we're going to some random and dangerous planet."
"Oh. My day keeps getting better and better," I grumbled. "At least I'm not alone. I'm Cassandra, Cassandra Jones."
"Nice to meet you Cassandra Cassandra Jones." He said with a smirk. "Wait a minute...follow me."
He walked out the door and I followed him as he went up the corridor and into a room that said Bridge. Inside was a lot of random flashing buttons and the captains chair.
"Here's navigational controls." He said,"Now if I can only...Ha! Here it is."
The screen he was looking at showed a moving dot, heading away from a dot, toward a dot. Which basically meant nothing to me.
"Here we are," he said poiting toward the moving dot. "This is planet Px-207 is where we're heading. The information on it says that it's deserted...yet it can sustain life for humans. Maybe we'll find some aliens there!"
I rolled my eyes. Aliens don't exist, everyone knows that. Most people believe we've explored over a quarter of our universe and there isn't one sign of other life out there.
"Can't you change where we're going?" I asked.
"No," he said. "I would need a command code for that which I don't have."
"Whatever. I don't know about you but I'm gonna resume my breakfast in the kitchen and worry about it later and you need to clean up said kitchen."
"Ay, Ay Captian Chelsey," he said with a stupid grin.
Whatever I thought. I'll worry about this situation eventually.
