It was like I felt my pride in the back of my throat as I was forced to actually swallow it for once. This was going to be one of the most humiliating things I've ever done, but I knew it was for the good of everybody, and the good of me. I had to begin somewhere, I just hated that this had to be the starting point.
X actually helped me see reason, and I guess he just had a way of convincing me to do things I never thought I would do, like paying up to an Earthling! I just wish he could be like me, and not a villain in the dark, then maybe we could actually make this friendship work. It didn't really matter, because it's not like the fact that we lived in 2 different worlds would stop me from seeing him again.
Not that I cared about the rules anyway, if I wanted to be friends with this guy, then hell I'll do it! It just never seemed like he was his true self in that suit, like it had made him a whole other person. No matter, I had more important things to worry about now than some thief with mood issues.
Time to grovel to a human.
Back at the tower, there was still a tense atmosphere looming around the team. Even Cyborg and Beastboy sat in silence on the couch, their eyes trained on the floor and not even acknowledging each other's presence. Raven had found her little corner of solitude by the back of the room, just sitting against the wall with her legs crossed and muttering that strange chant like she always does when she gets stressed or pissed.
Starfire paced outside the door that supposedly lead to the hall that held Robins 'Evidence Room,' whatever that was. Her hands rubbed together worryingly and she refused to do anything else until she knew Robin was ok. When I got closer, I could see the puffiness around her eyes, and her cheeks were still wet from fresh tears that were recently shed.
Now I knew why I never went down these halls, they were to quiet and just gloomy, like somebody sucked all of the light out of them. Doors lines the walls, but they also came with keypads layered with dust. Easy to see nobody has been down here in a while.
One door in particular, was clean. Fingerprints covered the keypad, clear evidence that this was the room that Wonder Boy was hounding himself in for the time being.
"No backing out now." I whisper to myself as I rock back and forth on my feet. "Just bite the bullet and walk inside."
