The Beast

Lord of the Flies

By: Hannah Wang

A pretty pink beach with seashells galore

a cream pink conch washes ashore

blow into it, a mighty sound

calls a meeting from all around

What should we do, trapped in this place?

No grown-ups here, what an interesting case

we must start a fire so we can be saved

and while we wait, we must behave

Eating fruit as our food

but that's not enough, we conclude

we paint our faces like an Indian mask

while we do this horrid but exciting task

Kill the pig, cut her throat, spill her blood

she squeals, kicks, and falls with a thud

All seems well, but we hear bad news

A beastie among us, which seems to amuse

The mulberry boy just won't let it pass

oh, it nothing, just some tall grass

but then we feel like something is off

erie silence, not a sneeze nor a cough

Jack and his tribe don't seem to care

it's only Ralph and Piggy that feel despair

also Simon, acting strange

going to that alcove without a change

The Beast is a pig with flies all around

The Lord of the Flies has been found

you knew didn't you? it said

I'm apart of you, not just a pig's head

The Beastie is a gloom of evil in our soul

the pitch black tar of hate that fills us full

Simon is the only one who understands the truth

of why we are like this, robbed of our youth

But it seems too late, Simon is beaten and killed

malicious jeering laughter, the air is filled

small silver fish with fiery red eyes

swim around Simon until the sunrise

It's total chaos for the the bond is broken

A new type of evil in the boys is awoken

Split up into two different clans

one is bad with very dark plans

Piggy's glasses hold power to make fire

that's the only thing that Jack desires

attack on Piggy, get ahold of his glasses

kick and punch, the tribe harasses

A bright burning evil, flies through each tree

fire everywhere so Ralph cannot be free

a moment of horror, right before death

one more sniff, one more breath

Ralph is spared, but Piggy dies

before Ralph could even say goodbyes

A ship docks near the sand

A sea captain walks onto the land

They are rescued but there is no joy

For there was a death of multiple boys

tears of shame dance down each face

for the loss of childhood and grace

Hopeless burning shame comes out as tears

the cry for the shame of facing their fears

realize the pain, the terrible cost

they weep for their innocence is lost
