I step on the stoned pathway to the entrance of East Side High. The trees were lined up on each side of the pathway. The branches of the tree spread out as if they were greeting us.
Junior year. Every year I expect a different year. A more exciting year. Hoping to be more. More popular. More friends. Maybe a boyfriend. Maybe join a sport team. Some more clubs. Live the life of the protagonist in a movie.
But nothing is different in reality. The stress is still there and I'm still stuck in prison. So what's the difference. Why have such high expectations? Call me a pessimist, but it's true. If you don't expect anything and don't get anything it wouldn't affect you since you never expected anything. That's better than expecting something, only to end up disappointed.
I'm about to walk up the stairs until I hear a voice screaming my name.
"Ella!" It's ok. I'm just going to continue walking and hope that she gets the hint to stop.
"Ella!!" I guess not. I speed walk, but it's no match for her. The girl is on the track team.
"Mia! Would you stop? You're embarrassing me!" Finally turning around and quickly covering my face with my hair.
"Well, sorry for trying to show some love for my loving cousin."
"If you mean by always screaming my name when it is dead silent and then have all these people stare at me. Then no. " I absolutely hate attention as you can see.
"I'm not surprised she would try to avoid you. Who wants a crazy psycho following them?" A voice joins in from behind.
"Shut up Daniel. No one was talking to you."
"Is that anyway to talk to your lovely brother?" He retorts.
Meet my crazy cousins and childhood friends Mia Evans and Daniel Evans. As you can tell, they are always bickering. And here they go...
"Stupid."
"Idiot."
"Butt head."
"Ok guys. What class do you guys have?" I say, which gets me their attention, causing them to stop their whole battle of insults.
"Let's see. Hmm." She takes my schedule and compares it to hers.
"Oh. We have business, English and trig together. And you have drama with Daniel. Good luck with that. "
"That's cool. So do you lovely siblings have any classes together?"
"Co-ed PE" they said in unison, looking at each other with a disgusted look hanging on their faces. I hang my arms over their shoulders, forcing them to walk towards the doors. While the two peaceful sibling glare at each other, in hopes of intimidating the other.
"By the way, where is your brother?" Mia asked as she looks around.
Speaking of which. My outgoing brother, the one that everyone adores. The one that guys are jealous of. The one that girls drool over. And then there's me. I'm the opposite. Normal. Average. The only thing I hold over my brother is my grades.
But I have to say, being Mr. Popular's younger sister has its pros. No one dares to mess with me. Unless they want a beating.
"I don't know. Probably hanging out with his crew." I answered.
"Typical." Mia said rolling her eyes.
Which is actually quite true, he always does that. Then, Daniel heads towards my brother. What did you expect? They're best buddies. But they're too embarrassed to admit it. It's cute."Omg he is so cute." Mia says dreamily like she was gonna melt. I followed her gaze and my eyes meet with him.
I nodded in agreement. The guy was definitely a heartthrob. He looks about 6'1. He has light brown eyes, so light that when the sun hits his eyes, they turn to a caramel color. Tousled brown hair and looks like he definitely works out.
"Is he new because I would've totally noticed him." I asked.
She looked at me with disbelief.
"You have got to be kidding me. You don't know who Damien Hunters is. He was in your Chem class last year."
"Really?"
"I'm so done with you."
I took another glimpse of him. But this time it wasn't his good looks that captured my eye.
It was the thing on his neck.
The silver chain had a ring on it. In the middle of the ring was an emerald stone and surrounding it was a complex design.
I recognized it because of its unique design. It was the same one my mother had given to me.
