Angel
"Angel." The voice calls me. I look around, but it's too bright to see anything.
I come across a hooded figure, its back turned on me. I slowly approach it, the voices growing louder. Before I can touch the figure, it lashes out at me. I scream.
My eyes flash open from the dream. I quickly sit up, searching for any monsters in my bedroom. What was that dream about? I wondered for a minute, then I shake it off.
I hear my phone buzz multiple times. I pick it up to see birthday wishes. How sweet.
Logan: Happy 18th birthday Angel :-) Be ready in 30, I got a surprise for you.
I grin at the text. If you're thinking this Logan guy is my boyfriend, think again. He's my best friend, mainly because he's my only friend.
Thirty minutes? Shit. I get out of the sheets and enter the bathroom.

The moment I walk out of the room, I smell something really good. I follow the scent to the kitchen. Pancakes.
"Happy birthday!" My mom turns around. She walks towards me and hugs me tightly. "I have a present for you."
"Aw mom, don't tell me it's expensive." I sit down at the table, grabbing pancakes on my plate.
"It's not." She hands me a rectangular box. I shake it a little, trying to guess what it is. "Open it."
I look at her and smiled. I carefully open the box, eager to see what it is. I hold up a silver stick, sort of thing. The carvings on the stick look like the ones I doodle sometimes. "It's beautiful. What is it?" I laugh.
"It's a family heirloom. For now, just look at it as a good luck charm."
