Imagine a man. Tall, muscular. Dominant, taunting you. Now imagine the fear that pulses through every inch of your body when he comes near you.
*Snap*
Did you blink? This blink shows him your weakness, your fears. Every inch of your body is compromised, fear taking over. This is my life.
I woke up that morning, my eyes wide. Another dream. I wiped the sleep from my eyes, standing up with a yawn. I grabbed my phone; 2 missed calls and a voice mail. I listened to the voice mail, then immediately turned it off, deleting it. Of course my father had sent me a recording of his wonderful night last night with some chic from a bar. Gross.
Disgusted, I took a shower to clear the sounds from my mind. The echoing moans slowly faded from my mind, but my father did not. I mean, how could he? Looking at my body just reminded me of him. Id have to remember to cover the bruises well before I went to school.
"Oh!" I gasped aloud. That's right. Today's my first day at a new school. This cleared all of the thoughts of my abusive father from my mind.
"I wonder if they'll be nice..." I thought aloud, getting out of the shower.
An hour later I came out dressed in jeans and a long sleeve Marvel shirt, despite the 98 degree weather. My stawberry blonde hair fell straight, nearly reaching my hips. I sighed, already fanning myself from the heat. While I continued to gather my stuff, I rolled up my sleeves.
Another 15 minutes go by, then I get into my car. Before pulling out of my driveway, I notice a cute girl in front of the house next to mine. 'She's very... attractive.' I thought. If my dad found out what I just thought, Id for sure get an extra beating, so I drive to the school. I nearly forgot to roll down my sleeves, but I remembered when the hot belt buckle stung my bare skin. I quickly pulled down my sleeves and made my way into the high school, into the office.
"Excuse me, where do I get my schedule?" I asked the woman at the front desk.
"Down that hall, 3rd door to your left."
"Thank you." I walked in that direction and stopped outside, hearing an argument inside. I knocked quietly and heard a gruff 'Come in!'
I slowly opened the door and entered the small room. Counselor's office.
There were 2 students in the chairs opposite the counselor, a scrawny man with way too much grey hair for his age.
"How can I help you?" He asked, his voice tired.
"I uh just transferred from RidgeView and I need my schedule." He immediately brightened.
"Oh, you're Kalina Fairchild, yes? Mr. and Ms. Grey, this is the girl I was telling you about. Please, sit, Miss Fairchild." He gestured to the chair between the two students.
"Kalina, this is Madeline and Ashton. They're twins and they will be your personal guides for the first few weeks you are here." He said. He seemed stressed and I had a feeling these twins were a factor in that. I greeted Ashton with a smile, then turned to Madeline. I nearly gasped.
"You're the girl I saw this morning!" I said.
"That would be me....and i go by Maddie..." She grumbled.
"Yes, this arrangement was made so you'd have someone you could trust nearby." The counselor said. I dont think he realized how much safer that made me feel.
"I'm not sure how much help we'll be--" Maddie started to say.
"Okay then! Here's your schedule! So if you 3 don't mind, I have some important business to attend to. " We excused ourselves, leaving, and I clutched my schedule in my hand. The counselor practically slammed the door behind us.
"Well he's rude." I huffed.
"Nah, he just doesnt like us. He seemed to like you, though. I like you too." Ashton said. He smirked at me as I blushed.
"Oh Ash, leave the poor girl alone." Maddie said.
"But Mads--"
"We'll get out of your way now." She said, beginning to push her brother out.
"Wait! Wont you... I mean, could you show me to my homeroom?" I asked shyly.
"Oh... you'd still like us to show you around? I wasn't sure you'd want to be seen with us weirdos." Maddie said with a shrug.
"Why would you say that?! I don't find you weird... at least, not a bad weird..." I said. Ashton chuckled. Cute laugh.
"You're good. I like this one, eh, Mads?" Ashton escaped her grasp and put his arm around me, pulling me to his side.
"Yeah. She's something..." She said, looking at me and mouthing 'sorry about him.'
"Come on. We'll show you around." He said.
"Okay. But just a second." I slipped out of his grip and stood a few feet away from them, smirking.
"I lead." I said. I walk swiftly from the room, knowing they'd follow. I heard Ashton stop to speak to Maddie.
"I really like her." He said.
"She's quite likeable Ashton, but she's a potential friend. Dont make her hate you on her first day." I heard Madeline tell him before following me.
Ashton wouldn't like me so much if he knew the real me...
I turned around, puttin on a smile.
"On second thought, you lead. I have no clue where Im going." They laughed and began to lead the way.
