"Be careful! You could break my wrist!" shouts Caelan before Elijah smashes a hammer on her watch.
"It's fine! See? All over now," sighs Elijah. He can see Caelan questioning what they had just done, as she always does. That cute worried puppy face that Elijah loves so much.
"Hey now, don't worry! We did the right thing. How are they supposed to know who we love? They don't know shit Caelan! I love you and no stupid watch is going to tell me we don't belong together!"
Caelan laughs. She loves Elijah. He has always been so fearless, always determined to prove everyone wrong. Elijah was always so valiant, from being a ten year old trouble maker at school to breaking his and his girlfriend's watch on the rooftop of an apartment buliding where everyone could hear his shouting. Caelan loved Elijah so much, she couldn't picture herself loving anyone else. That's why she agreed to this whole plan. Who actually believes in soulmates anyway? Elijah was right. There's no way the universe or whatever could possibly know anything. It's all bullshit.
All these thoughts crossed Caelan's mind as she looked at her broken watch with a smile. Elijah couldn't get enough of that smile. He looked at her and remembered how shy and scared she used to be. He was so happy when she finally saw things his way. She was just so confused, but he loved her for it. He loved her curiousity, her admiration for his courage.
"C'mon let's get married now!" laughed Elijah as he took Caelan's hand.
"What? Now you're insane!" giggled Caelan as she followed Elijah.
Elijah spun her around and they started dancing like they did in those fairytale Disney movies.
Caelan couldn't be any happier. She felt so free with Elijah, as if she was in a movie. Everything was so perfect.

"Honey, I'm home! Emory chuckled. She dropped her bag on the floor and looked around the house. Her father was in his office and her mother was on the couch sleeping, a bottle of pills next to her. Emory sighed and left to her room. She turned on her laptop and turned up the music. Suddenly, her laptop turned off.
"Shit. Didn't I just charge this?" Emory wondered. She plugged it into her charger and went to the kitchen to get a snack. As she reached for a bag of Doritos, she noticed her wrist watch blinking 01:04:01:27.
"What?" she said out loud. It stopped counting down.
"Mom!" she exclaimed while hitting her wrist.
"What do you need now?"
"My watch! It stopped working!"
"Ha. I told you no one would love you," her mom said as she fell back asleep.
Emory ran to her room and turned her laptop back on.
"My wrist watch stopped counting down" she typed into the Google search bar. There wasn't much except a few people here and there asking the same question. No one knew the answer.
Emory sighed, a tear falling down her cheek. Maybe her parents were right. She was never even attracted to anyone she met. She still carried the hope that her clock would actually lead her to "the one" though.
Furious, Emory wiped away her tears and grabbed a Sharpie from her drawer. She scribbled all over the small screen on her watch. Not satisfied, she put a peice of ducktape over it.
"That should do it," she thought to herself. She looked at her shaking hands and paused. Emory realized that this was it. No more countdown. No more excitement. No more soulmate. No more hope. Tears flooded her face once again. Everything had always gone so wrong. Her friends abandoned her after she moved states, her parents didn't care much, her brother was an adult and had moved out two years ago. She always relied on the hope that one day her soulmate would rid her of all her troubles, but now she knew she had no one. She was the only one who could save herself.
