Wind danced among the feathers as black as night, the figure laid there, unmoving. Blood seeped from one of the wings and dripped from the tip of the feathers onto the solid cemented ground. There was no words to describe it, just that it had a disfigured human body and feathered wings. The little girl stared and dared to step closer, poking the uninjured wing ever so gently. The tip of the feathers slashed across the ground like a knife and the little girl stumbled back quickly withdrawing her hand in the process. As the figure shot up, the little girls curiosity was met by deep golden eyes. Suddenly the creature let out a howl that pierced the night sky. The little girl fell back, covering her ears and closing her eyes as the sound set off car alarms and flickered the streetlights. When it stopped the girl opened her eyes slowly and stood up slowly, she watched the creature spread out its entire wingspan. The creature had her entranced, that was until it flapped it's great wings and had her nearly blown to the ground by the gush of air it released. The creature leaped and took off into the night leaving behind a pool of red. The little girl suddenly tried to call out to it, warning it of the wound, she was too late as the figure disappeared into the night with great difficulty. The girl stood there, unsure of what to do, she wanted to help the creature but was conflicted by what it was she saw, she decided otherwise and turned back to the street from between the buildings. Wind howled through the night, covering up the cries of pain from the creature. The girl stepped out onto the empty street, worried for the creature, clouds began to crawl in and fill the sky with the sound of thunder, she rushed back towards her mother. As she neared a shop that was being locked up by a tall women who rattled the keys and pulled on the door, checking it was closed tightly she called out
"Mummy!" The women put the keys in her handbag and looked up at the little girl with a smile.
"Come now dear." She spoke in a soft tone and took hold of her daughters hand, leading her out. The girl quietly let her mother lead her out onto the main road. Passing by a homeless man on a bench.
"Mummy?"
"Yes dear."
"Why does that mister have floating numbers above his head?" The little girl pointed to the homeless man who shivered. Red numbers above his head, slowly flashing and counting down.
"There's no floating numbers, stop being silly, Mummy is very tired and you don't want to make me angry." The mother brushed off her daughter and gripped her hand tighter, dragging her past the old man. The little girl glanced back at the homeless man, he coughed a couple times and the numbers began moving faster. She wanted to ask her mother why the numbers began moving very fast but she did not want to make her mother angry, she turned her head away and let her mother lead her to the car. The little girl yawned and snuggled her backpack, drifting off to sleep.
Monsters, big black claws, sharp pointy teeth and scary. The girl screamed and woke up in her bed, her mother rushed in and held her daughter
"Baby! what's wrong?"
"There were big scary monsters." The little girl cried as her mother rocked her back and forth repeatedly saying "Shh, Mummy's here." She began to relax in her mothers embrace, when her mother saw this she laid her back down and pulled the blankets over her, tucking her in.
"It was just a dream, Mummy has scared the monsters away, it's safe, goodnight sweetie."
"I don't like those monsters, but the flying monster was pretty." The mother nodded and kissed her forehead, then turned on her little night light before leaving the room without question. The little girl looked at her night light and rubbed her tired eyes.
