"Amethyst!" I hear mom call. I lace up my my boots and scramble down the stairs. Amethyst. I know, it's not a very Dauntless name. My mom was born Amity, so she wanted to bring a piece of her birth faction into her new life. I think it's a nice gesture.
"Amethyst Gayle Abbott!" My mom calls a second time, this time with annoyance lacing through her voice. " we're going to be late!"
"I'm coming!" I call back. Today was the choosing ceremony. The day I choose my fate. I wipe my sweaty palms on my leather pants. I'm Dauntless! I shouldn't be scared. But I am. I still don't know what faction I'll pick. I've been tossing and turning all night. I feel the bags under my eyes. I was really hoping I would get Dauntless on my aptitude test. But I didn't.
I got Amity. My mothers birth faction. I was up all night weighing my options, listing the pros and cons but I still haven't come to a conclusion. On one hand, I don't want to choose the wrong faction and be miserable the rest of my life, on the other hand, I don't want to leave or disappoint my parents. I come downstairs and mom turns around annoyance still on her face, but it softens when she sees my sweaty palms. " You nervous?" She asks me softly. "Yeah." I sheepishly admit. "Don't be." She says, determined. "Do what's best for you, don't even think about us." I drop my head. "Easier said then done." She lifts my chin. "Are you ready?" I turn around and look in the mirror, I look at us. We have the same silky dark hair and porcelain skin. We look almost the same except I have dads sharp green eyes as opposed to moms soft grey ones. " Are you ready, Hun?" Speaking of the devil. I turn around and smooth back my hair. "Yeah, Dad." He smiles and kisses me on the cheek.
"let's go then." He says. My parents are unlike most Dauntless parents. They're very over protective. I wasn't allowed to jump off a train by myself until I was 14. We walk out among the other Dauntless going to the choosing ceremony and wait for the train. Not long after, I hear the familiar rumbling coming down the tracks. Mom, Dad and I jump onto the train and lean against the opposite wall. It's especially crowded today, because of the choosing ceremony. I scan the crowd. Some look as nervous as me, while others look overly confident. I look down at my folded hands. I still haven't chosen a Faction.A/N:
