It's time to jump now. I leap from the train and brace myself for impact with the ground. Surprisingly, I land on my feet. It's hard to believe, considering my clumsiness. I feel a confident hand gripping my shoulder. Dad. Mom walks up beside me. We walk in and run up the stairs with the crowd of our fellow Dauntless. Personally, I would have preferred the elevator but I kinda had no choice. I finally make it to the floor, panting amongst a sea of black with gray sprinkled in. Abnegation. I admire their ability to be completely selfless. Abnegation happens to be my fathers birth faction. He never told me why he left. I scan the room and take a seat next to my parents and the rest of Dauntless. I spot my childhood friend, Delphine. I smile. I really hope we end up in the same faction. I catch stares coming from all over the room. I've grown used to it, people always stared at the Dauntless for some reason. The ceremony has begun. I watch teenagers, one by one walk up to the stage and choose their fate. I twiddle my thumbs. I still don't know what faction I'll choose. My palms have grown even more sweaty. I hear my name. I look up in fear. "Amethyst Gale Abbott?" They repeat. I stand up, my knees shaking. I walk up to the stage and take the knife. I carefully slice my palm, my hands shaking slightly. I look up, gazing at my options. Dauntless or Amity? I hold out my hand, dripping with blood.
I choose Abnegation.
