The Dark
Why do eyes show more than the words we speak
They show the truth of which we all seek
The truth is more cruel, a twisted hate we do not wish to see
So we hide it away, oblivious, but happy as can be
The things we do affect more than we think
A combination of events starting to sink
We twist and turn, and we try to run
Trying hopelessly, chasing the sun
We fumble with our words in the society we are in
Wondering what is and isn't a sin
Tied down by ropes too hard to get out of
Fluttering wildly, we are a caged dove
Things may happen or things may not
We don't always get things once sought
Our hearts can be gentle, strong, or worn out
Hurt, broken, and left with doubt
Going through each of the phases
We're all mice trapped in difficult mazes
The fact that most everyone hides
There's no exit, it's sealed from all sides
We can hide our feelings from the ones we meet
Some so good it becomes an ordinary feat
We all have masks so worn they have sunk into our skin
Throwing the good in us into a forgotten bin
We no longer have a need to please only us
The scale has widened making it more of a fuss
Those who can't handle meeting the mark
Find themselves throwing their life in the dark
Some miss them, some envy them for being brave enough
They too have tried, ending in only a bluff
People you once trusted have turned you in
They were once, but are no longer your kin
Confused, sad, and scared
The music loudly being blared
You can't hide from it all, can't reach the mark
Now it's you that's lost in the dark
