I walked in the front door of our tiny apartment in Sydney, Australia.

"Mom! I'm home!" There was no answer.

"Mom?" Silence. I dropped my bag on the ground, a tear falling from my eye.

"Mom!" I screamed, "Mom where are you!" I was becoming frantic, running through every room in the house. I came upon the kitchen, where I saw my mom's shoes poking out from behind the counter. I ran over, letting out a scream when I saw her.

"Mom. Mom. Wake up! Mom! Don't do this to me! You can't leave me! Please.......Mom," I sobbed. My mom lay on the floor of our tiny apartment, dead.

I collapsed, sobs shaking my body. I buried my head in my hands, crying harder than I ever had before. I didn't know it was possible to feel pain like this.

A pair of strong arms wrapped around me.

"Hayden. She's gone." I sobbed into my best friends chest. "She's really gone."

"I know, I know." He mumbled into the top of my head. I felt a tear drop from
his eye as well. "It'll be okay, Grace, I'll make sure of it."

I sunk down farther, leaning back against the counter, breathing heavily. I knew what this meant. I had to go live with my dad.

Okay, I know this was sort of short, but it's an improvement from the last prologue so oh well.
