These days, running seemed timeless, the icy wind against my face, the need to survive pushing me to my limit. Winding around the crippled buildings trying to escape my pursuers, there was no way I was going back to the farm. I was not joining the last of the human race to be enslaved and eventually, drained dry by a leech. Luckily for me I have been trained since the world had ended 17 years ago, how to defend myself from the dreaded parasites. A machete span passed my head like a tornado, I had to switch directions fast, I used a gust of wind to propel myself forward and used all my strength and body weight to dive down an alley to the right. "Crap!" I was blocked in. I drew my two swords that were constantly strapped across my back, my best friend Bailey always made jokes that i looked like a ninja with my clothing being mostly black other than my dark tinted leather jacket. My violet hair draped in straggles across my face, I slowly twisted my head from left to right, while maliciously smiling like the joker. Good, they were being weary, they knew of my reputation; I had killed many vampires in my short life, I enjoyed it, I almost relished in it, that's what I had been raised to do. The brute hunters who had been sent to find me, drew their long swords "How can I help you ladies?" I sang in my most sarcastic voice. "I'm afraid I'm not selling fresh underwear today; you're going to have to deal with your soiled ones"

"Where's the prince?"

"I never found my prince charming" I replied to the vampire who had ears the size of trophy handles. The four of them started to close in, this was not going to be easy, vampires were faster and stronger than humans, this really wasn't looking good. I didn't let my doubt show and prepared to dance. One from each direction launched I blocked both with my swords and quickly span dragging by blades across their chests but the other two were on me too fast, this was it. Suddenly two small blades shot out of nowhere and embedded in two of their skulls. I looked round and there was a tall figure with a worn leather trench coat. The two that were left froze, I could see the fear in their big eyes.

I was dumbfounded as big ears and his associate fled! They blooming fled! Vampires never ran. They had taken over the world in a matter of weeks. There was movement behind me, all I could feel was sheer power, I probably should have run, but unlike the leeches, I didn't feel threatened, even though I knew what was behind me. I slowly rotated round, the ancient vampire was studying me from his spot, he was casually leaning against the mossy alley, twiddling with his dagger, like he had no care in to world.

"You looked like you can use a hand" he said smoothly, he oozed charm, and his bright green eyes bore into me like he knew me. "I have been looking for you for a long time"

"Sorry to keep you waiting" I retorted not trusting him one bit but i could shake the feeling that he meant me no harm, no matter how much i wanted to hate him.

"You handle yourself well, for a minute there I didn't think I needed to help" he chuckled, the hint of amusement in his eyes irritated me, I can't believe he had been watching me.

"I have taken on more vampires than that before" I was sounding like a sulky teenager which seemed to amuse him more

"I'm sure you have; I know your reputation Evangeline"

"How do you know my name?"

"I told you I have been looking for you?"

"Aren't you Mr Cryptic"

"Most people call me Alexander"

"Well Alexander, what now? You're an ancient vampire, I'm a huntress, and you still haven't answered all my questions"

"Please call me Alex and not here, is there some where you would feel safe to talk, that way I can prove that I'm trust worthy for an ancient" he said with a cocky grin and I swear he winked at me as he said it, did this guy ever lose his sarcasm.

"Maybe, but why would I take you there, im fighting the urge to kill you right now"

"No your not and right now you don't have much of a choice" he nodded to the direction behind me, at least 20 dark figures had entered the alley.

"Ah shit! Fine, follow me" I groaned, I then turned and ran, my leather boots gripped the ground, as I reached the end of the alley I glanced behind me, just as a knife came tumbling towards my head. Then it stopped, a fingerless leather gloved hand was clutching the edge of the knife, time seemed to slow and in a matters of seconds Alex had caught the knife and launched it back towards the oncoming storm. He reached around my waist, I'm sure I heard in my mind someone say deep breath but then everything was blur. Everything around me blended into one, I imagine this was what it would be like inside a washing machine at the peak of its cycle. I couldn't breathe, it felt like my skull was crushing my brain, I tried to stay awake but the force was too strong. My final thought was, this must finally be death.
