I heard a melody of chirping from the sparrows and black birds, the light that was shining in was almost blinding. Wait a minute, what's going on? I slowly rose from the four poster bed, it was decorated with burgundy and ebony silk with matching satin sheets. My feet started to move to the window, I had no control, I just had to watch as this woman whose body I seemed to be inhabiting elegantly heads to the window. Outside was unlike anything I had ever seen before the sun was shining all over an array of farms, and animals, busy people everywhere rushing to get their daily chores done, on the horizon I could make out a dense forest with the sun glimmering just above. Back inside the room the woman headed to her gigantic, golden, hand carved dressing table. She sat down, staring in the mirror back at me were the familiar purple eyes I always see in a reflection, the dark violet strands of hair curled and sitting on my shoulders, this woman was me.
I now headed to an elaborate wardrobe with many beautiful gowns, I pulled out a royal blue one with long sleeves that were embellished with intricate lace embroidery, which kept on going to cover the upper half of the dress the rest just flowed down to the ground to pool at my feet.
I was heading towards the window again. "You look beautiful" a voice behind me whispered, turning around with regal grace I giggled "Thank you" the man behind was Alex.
"Wake up"
The images started to distort. Everything was spinning, I gasped for air, the room slowly started to gain focus. I was led on a cold concrete floor. Alex was looking at me with deep concern, his hands were on my shoulders where he had be shaking me awake. I had never seen a vampire look so scared. I looked into his distressed emerald eyes, the same ones from my dream. Something about him seemed very comforting, I felt safe.
"What happened?" I gasped looking around the room I was in an abandoned apartment building, that had obviously been raided a long time ago there was just junk strewn around the place. I sat up quick pulling away from Alex, I didn't want him to see me weak.
"Evie we need to go." He told me smoothly
"Don't call me Evie, what the hell happened? Where are we?" I snapped a bit more harshly than intended.
"I slipped us into this building to wake you" he defended "I'm really fast, the first time is always the worst you won't pass out next time, " I had to stifle a laugh he looked so offended, he was a child on the defensive.
"We have to go" he demanded "now!"
Just then I heard several crashes down stairs, I drew my two swords from my back it was time for some fun,
"Alex, we need to get to the roof; I have an idea!"
We both stood with our backs either side of the door frame, I could hear them, coming, I took a deep breath, I hope Alex is trustworthy or I was signing my death sentence. I let the power flow through me and into my swords, I knew my eyes had lit up. I could see through the entire building I knew where each parasite was, there were about 60 of them swarming up from the first floor to the roof.
"Ready?" Alex asked tilting his head to the side with a half-smile and a cocky glint in his eye
"Of course" I said with a mischievous smirk.
I darted out the doorway and to the right, Alex did the same but faced the left so we were back to back, four vampires each closed in on us, this time I would not need Alex's help.
I charged, my sword swung at the first vampires' head he dodged but he was too busy blocking the first sword to get to my second which plunged into his heart. I spun round, my hair flying round with the force. I brought my sword up to block another vampire's attack, I kicked him in the chest using the full strength of my power to push him back to the end of the hall. I took a step back to look at my handy work, I took a quick glance towards Alex "shit!" I ducked as Alex threw a vampire with ease in my direction. We both quickly disabled the last two assailants and headed to the iron door at the end of the hall.
The wind blew my hair frantically in every direction "Alex, jump to the next roof!" I commanded
"I'm not leaving you here!"
"You won't be, just trust me!"
He was looking at me with unease, but he jumped to the next roof as I told him taking a quick glimpse at me before he went.
"What now smart ass" he mocked with a hint of distress.
"Hope you're good at catch"
Now it was my time to shine, I could see the vampire's silhouettes through the walls of the building as they raced up the stairs to the roof. I took a deep breath and headed a couple of meters away from the ledge, I knelt down onto one knee and placed my hands onto the rough surface. The building began to shake, the power flowing through me gripped the buildings foundations. Everything began to shake more violently now, almost swaying from side to side, jagged bits of rock tumbled off the walls. It was starting to collapse. I could feel the bottom of the building beginning to crumble, I rose from my knee as the vampires poured out the door on the far side, now it was time to run. I had to jump, the building was just about to fall I had to jump now, I looked down and the vertigo got to me, "Evie, jump!" Alex shouted "Trust me."
As the building implodes around my feet, I took a few steps back and leapt off with all the force I could muster, I screamed I felt strong hands wrap around my wrist and hauled me up.
I continued to cry "You're safe now Evie" Alex whispered in my ear. We fell onto the roof with his arms wrapped around me, my back pressed to his chest I couldn't stop shaking. He held me tight and was mumbling soothing words "I thought it was a good Idea at the beginning" I chuckled though gritted teeth. Heights have never been a strong point of mine, ever since I fell off a bridge when I was little where I nearly drowned.
