Victor comes home hours after his visit to Richie drunk as a skunk and staggering like a blind man in a forest. The door to the house is shut and so if the one to the basement. He listens at the door for several minutes waiting for a scuffling noise or even a hint of sound to indicate that his wife and child remain where he had put them.
Opening the door a crack, Victor listens even harder, his buzz quickly leaving him behind, off to find more of a light weight he suspects. He hears nothing and, soon, his whole body is through the door and down the stairs as well.
Victor’s head is now clearer as adrenaline pumps through his veins and his hands begin to shake. The room is deserted and Victor knows it as both the crib and bed are empty. His heart hammering in his chest as he realizes that he should have went to pick up the gun a long time ago, Victor slams his fist into the wall and takes off upstairs. Slamming the door behind him, Victor runs as quickly up the stairs as his short legs can carry him. The doors of the house are never locked because Victor has a failsafe.
Upstairs in the spare bedroom he uses for an office, Victor has several computers set up and wireless cameras spread all around the house. Rewinding the tapes back to right after he left, Victor witnesses Stephany’s breakdown while, at the same time, watching as a woman in a red shawl steps right through his front door and snoops around his house.
On the edge of his seat, he watches as she finds the door that leads to Stephany and Ryker. Fast-forwarding a few minutes, Victor seethes as Stephany and the woman he now recognizes as her older sister dart around his house packing things up. At last, Victor watches the two of them as they exit the door.
Stephany makes on final appearance though only seconds later as she comes back in to fly the bird at one of the less strategically placed cameras before disappearing back through the door. He’d give it a while for her to come back and, if she doesn’t, he’ll wait about a year to put a new plan into action.
