In a world of smiling people, one girl with a frown really stands out.
200 years from today, scientists found a cure for depression. Our salvation in a pill. Sold over every counter, anti-depressants became very popular. Everyone who had ever had a sad thought sought out that small purple pill that could save them from their pain. It was truly incredible discovery. Everyone happy, always. A world of smiles. Welcome to Earth. A world rid of pain. This painless life was not for everyone though. One girl denied the drug.
Ashley saw the stains of humanity this pill had created. Any stain is better than that of the stain of blood, though. RIGHT??
She looked across the crowd of smiling fools. She knew that taking that pill would not make her troubles die with her demons. How could it? It's merely an illusion. "Hello, Ashley! Why so blue? Maybe you should take this." my closest friend, Emma, said with a wide eyed smile and a pill in her hand.
"No, thank you." Ashley said, looking down at her feet.
" Aw, Are you sure? It's not healthy to be so sad all the time. You really should smile." She said, extending her hand closer.
"I am sure." With that, Emma retracted her hand, and walked away, still smiling. Ashley even thought she heard a small giggle come from her, previously suicidal, friend. Rightfully startled, she quickened her steps and dove into the sea of smiles.
