Hey everyone!! This is my first book! I really hope you enjoy it :)
Alone in the wild. No help. Just alone. That's how I like it. It's been days since I have seen another person, but I would like it to stay that way.
My name is Samantha Preston, but I prefer to be called Sam. I was 4 when my mum first took me out into the forest. It was a life changing experience. Every spare moment I had I would spend it there, climbing trees, playing in the steam, making animals traps. But it wasn't until recently until I have had to hide out here. Who knows how long I'll stay....
It's was about 2 days ago when things began to turn nasty. I lived with my dad as my mum had died about 3 years earlier. After that day I spent more time in the forest than at home. My dad was heart broken and I just didn't want to face him, so I went camping. My tent perched high on the mountain so I could see the forest meet the town and the river snake through the middle of it all.
I was getting ready for school and dad was rushing around in the kitchen, stressed out about his job interview this morning. This was his first job opportunity in about a year. We had been struggling to survive. Luckily a worked a part-time shift at the cafe down the road.
I was deciding between wearing my black skinny jeans and my new tank top or a cute striped dress. I opted for the jeans and tank in the end, much more practical I thought to myself. I slipped on my combat boots and tied my thick brown hair in a neat ponytail.
Suddenly there was a sharp knock at the door.
"I'll get it!" I yelled to my dad. No response, classic. I hopped downed stairs and ran to the door. I opened it and was met with a scowling face.
"You're late!" groaned Mia, my best friend. Her short blonde hair flopping in her face.
"Nice shirt" I smirk glancing at her 'I love my mum' shirt.
"Urgh..." Mia groaned, "Mum made me wear it for punishment for not being home by curfew last Thursday". I remember back to Thursday, it was Matthew's party. Mia is crazy for him. Me not so much. I preference his friend Bailey. Oh how hot he was. Just thinking about him makes me blush.
"Sam!" Mia shrieked, breaking my daydream, "Were you even listening?".
"Yeah" I retort, although I hadn't been.
"Really, then what did I just say!" Mia remarked, a sly grin creeping up her face.
"You were... Um.... Talking about how hot Matthew is?" I ask, not sure if my answer was in fact correct.
"Oh, maybe you were listening..." Mia trailed off.
Ha! I was right, makes sense all she talks about is him. How Matthew looked at her, or how he asked to borrow a pencil. Pathetic.
"Ahem, are we going to go?" Mia questioned.
"Oh yeah, just let me grab my bag" I say turning around and walking into the kitchen. Dad is talking frantically on the phone. I grab my bag and wave him goodbye. He nods in recognition and turns back to his paperwork, clearly flustered.
I walk back out to Mia who is waiting on the porch playing on her phone.
"Alright" I say, "Let's go!"
