Chapter 2

Marcel's POV

I got home and checked the time. 3:30. I still had an hour before work. I saw a note on the counter, picking it up and reading it.

Marcel~

I had a call into the hospital, I don't know when I'll be back. There are TV dinners in the freezer for you. Don't forget about work. I'll see you as soon as I can.

~Mum <3

I set down the note. I started thinking of dad, since mum was gone. He died 3 years ago in a car crash. I missed him alot, but it's a touchy subject to talk about.

I went to my room to put on my work attire. Old jeans and a tee. I slipped my shirt over my head, and pulled up my jeans to buckle them. I combed my hair and gelled it back, like I normally do.

I put my phone in my pocket and grabbed my car keys. I ran downstairs and went out the front door. I hopped into my car and started the ignition, backing out of the driveway.

I don't know why I drove to work, it's only 3 blocks away. I parked my car in the small lot, turning it off and pulling the key out. I shoved it deep into my pocket. I ran into the little bakery on the street corner.

The little bell rung as I opened the door. I went to the back room, grabbed my apron and tied it around my waist. As I turned to tie it, I noticed a blotch of colour on my arm.

"Shit." I say to myself. I throw on a jumper right as Jake walks through the door with a couple other jocks. I stand at the counter as they look through the glass at the pies and cookies.

"So nerd, what's good?" He asks. I bite my lip. "I prefer the apple pie, with ice cream on top." I say quietly. "We'll have 3 slices of that then." I open the glass case and grab 3 plates of the apple pie ala mode.

I set them on the counter. "Anything else?" I ask. "Nope, how much?" He replies. "$6.75, please." I state, hearing the ring of the register as I open it. He pays and they all grab a plate and sit down.

I see someone familiar walking to the door. She opens it gently, making the bell ring. Melissa. Jake notices her, and stands. "Leave her alone!" I shout. "Don't touch her!" I continue, finishing.

"What're you going to do nerd?" He smirks. I sigh, knowing there's nothing I can do. "That's what I thought." He chuckled.

Mel walked up to the counter. "A cup of hot chocolate please, with whipped cream." She speaks softly, like the voice of an angel. "S-Sure Mel." I stutter, blush creeping upon my face. I pour the hot chocolate, and swirl whipped cream atop it.

I set it on the counter. "Is that all?" I confirm her order. "Yes, thanks." She replies. I ring her up. "$2.25, please." I say. She pays, taking the mug and sitting by the window.

By now, Jake and his friends were gone, but Mel was finished with her 3rd cup of cocoa, and she was scrolling through her phone. I hung my apron. "It's closing time." I told her. "Oh, alright." She responded.

I walked outside, holding the door open for her. When she started walking down the sidewalk, I locked the bakery quickly, and called out to her. "Mel, wait!" She paused and turned around, a confused look plastered on her face.

"Yes?" She asked. "I can drive you." I said. I walked to my car and opened the passenger door. She got in and I closed the door.

I got in and started the ignition, pulling out of the parking lot. "Which way?" I asked confused. "I live 3 blocks from here, on Riverside." Did she just say Riverside? That's the road I lived on.

"What house number?" I asked. "3794." She replied. I stared at her in disbelief. "What?" She asked. "You moved in next to me." I state. She's now staring at me in disbelief.

"I live in the red 2-story house." I said. She stares with a blank expression. I pull into my driveway. We say our goodbyes and she crosses the lawn to her house.

Is it just me? Or is destiny trying to tell us something.

Author's Note~

I have a really cute idea! Okay so... Marcel has a balcony off his room, and Mel has a balcony off her room. Their balconies are across the yards from each other, so they can see each other! Yes or no? I have a cute date idea too, but that'll be a secret. Comment & vote?
