"Dan?" said Sharlene, her voice quite soothing. "Dan?" Dan shifted her body to face the others and saw the same things. "Yes?" Dan asked and yawned. "Nothing, just wanted to wake you." Sharlene said with a smile, though Dan was a bit cranky. "Did anyone get adopted?" Dan asked. Sharlene's smile faded quickly as she nodded slowly. "Who?" Dan asked, waking up a bit. Sharlene shook her head. "No one we know, they were in the back." Dan nodded with understanding and stretched. Thank goodness she was a kit, or else she wouldn't be able too. Dan didn't know what to do, Sharlene and the other talked causally and Dan giggled at jokes, Dan just spent the time talking and cleaning herself. One time, a fly buzzed in through a window and landed on George's cage bars. Everyone was baffled, till the guard came in and swatted it. It's funny, how little things become big with boredom.

A couple days past, the days seemed endless sometimes, and Dan became more timid. Toward the middle of the night, there was a suspicious noise toward the hallway Dan was in. Suddenly, a man crept by the hallway with a mask on and a bag (this description sounds funky 0_o). Dan blinked at the strange man then shook herself back to reality. "Hey, guys." Dan whispered. No one shifted. "Guys!" Dan whispered a bit louder. George shifted but didn't wake up. Dan sighed, she was gonna have to wake up the whole building to wake these guys up. "Guys!" Dan whispered as loudly as possible to still be considered a whispered. Suddenly, the guy came back and peered down the hall, his bag full (that sounds weird). Dan had whispered a bit too loud. The group shifted and opened their eyes a bit just as the man walked down the hall. He stopped at Dan's cage and scoffed.

"Stop right where you are!" said another man, he had a gun (da police). Another man followed close behind. Then, the robber pulled out guns of his own and everyone started shooting. The sound of the gun shot's made everyone scared, even Dan. Dan mewed as everyone else went into complete chaos, dogs barking, cats mewing and hissing, and everything a blaze in commotion. In the confusion, one of the men smashed into Dan's cage and busted a bar. The bars were busted. The... bars... were.... busted... Dan blinked and realized she could escape! "George!" Dan shouted and George went to her attention. He noticed the bars and smiled. "Go! While you still can!" Dan nodded her thanks and squeezed through the bars. She fell to the floor and dashed for the exit. The men stepped everywhere and Dan had to scramble back and forth and side to side to dodge them.

Finally, Dan made it out to a longer hallway with other hallways. As Dan walked past the hallways in the hallway, she saw other animals. All caged like she had been. It hit Dan's heart like the bullets from the human's guns but she kept going. She bolted from the door, which the humans left open, and she made it outside. A car with flashing lights was outside parked next to the building, the lights moving quickly. Dan glanced behind her should, feeling remorse her new friends. "Don't give up hope, keep trying." Dan said to herself, but to her friends as well, then darted off; not knowing where she was going, not knowing what lay ahead, but not giving up hope.

Dan walked down the empty road, a car once and awhile, as the street lights flickered and some shone brightly. Dan felt the cold asphalt beneath her paws as she moved swiftly through the night. Her white paws now dirty from the dirt and pebbles. A loud boom in the sky and a flash of light sounded a storm. Dan looked up at the sky and saw thick, grey clouds that boomed with lightning and thunder again. Dan felt a drip of water fall on her head, then another, and another, and another. Then, the rain started pouring down on everything. Dan's coat was soon drenched as Dan scrambled  for shelter. She found a small corner with two dumpsters nearly blocking it off. Dan slipped away and through the tiny crack and found a somewhat dry. There was a small pipe that was dripping with clean rain water. Dan went to the puddle pooling under it and sniffed it. She lapped up a little, and found it wasn't clean. Dan spit it out and sighed.

She was tired, she needed rest, and Dan knew it. She laid down, curled up in a ball, and closed her eyes. The rain, thought less pelting like, still got her wet. Her pelt was so damp it was then times heavier and made Dan feel uncomfortable. But, they weight of sleep pulled more than the rain, and soon Dan was in a deep sleep...

The next day, Dan was woken to a quick surge of water that came through the pipe. Dan coughed, shook herself of the water as much as possible, and padded outside. The morning light was welcoming, although you saw it in a city. The sun was no where in sight, so Dan assumed it was just dawn. Hopefully not many cars would be out and about. Dan didn't know much about cars, only that they were loud and went really fast, also humans ride in their stomachs. It must hurt, having something alive in your stomach. Anyway, Dan looked around, a few humans walked on the sidewalks and sometimes riding two wheels things that went a little slower than a car. Dan waited for a human to pass, then she'd trot down quickly to prevent any one of them from trying to take her and put her back in the cages.

That reminded Dan of the others, how sad and lonely they must be; still trapped inside those small boxes. But, Dan needed to keep moving forward. After a passing a few more buildings, Dan smelled the most peculiar thing. It smelled like...
