"Who is she?"

Everyone looked at her. David was suddenly sad and Natalie stared the ground, Malcom stopped laughing at the same time as Matt did. Everyone was silent hoping that someone would answer me for them.

That girl was a brunette with dark eyes, her hair was long, just not too long. She was cute yeah, but it wasn't her physical appearance that made me notice her. It was the way she was standing alone when nobody else was and the way people looked at her while they were passing through.

Malcom was the one talking.

"That's Maddy, I mean Madeleine."
It was all he said. Malcom was holding really tight Natalie's hand and she seemed like she was about to cry

"Yeah, but what's wrong with her"

"A lot" Matt said "she's not the same since... since..."

"Him."He was cut off by David.

Natalie was crying with her head on Malcom's chest. Madeleine passed by us and she didn't even bother looking.

"She used to be kind and stuff, and then she met him. She used to be the best person in the world and her smile, I swear to god it could make flowers grow. She was this selfless girl who deserved the best this world could give. Everyone thought she was fixing him, I guess she thought that herself, but in the end, it was him who was destroying her. And I'm so sorry she couldn't see that before it was too late, I' m so so sorry"

Natalie was trembling while speaking. I started to regret bringing that up. It was certainly something that hurt them really bad.

"Hm, sorry I made you think about that."

"No problem you didn't know."

Nobody said a word after that, we went in silence to our classes looking at the ground. I wondered who was him and what he did to her. Somehow that girl seemed to have lost her soul.

I was the only one having chemistry so I went to lab by myself. It didn't take me long to realise that the only empty chair was next to Madeleine. I considered walking out the doors, but it was my first day in a new school and I couldn't just let her ruin that for me. I dragged myself to my sit. She was looking at her books and taking notes.

"Hi, I'm Sean."

I said introducing myself.

She looked at me and I was able to see how dark her eyes really were. It was like looking to a black hole. You just can't stop staring. Well I couldn't, but she broke the eye contact without saying a word. It was rude.

"And you are?"

She didn't look at me this time. She just whispered the sound "Madeleine".

The professor came in and smiled.

"Goodmornig class, I'm professor Vang, I'm a typical relaxed guy, but I assure that I expect nothing from you but hard work, if you think that you will succeed at this subject by watching TV or something like that, you can walk out of this door and pick another subject. I'm not going give grades, you need to earn it, and if you do I will be the first one to congratulate you. But first you need to have attitude. If you received a bad grade, and believe me you will, you need make up for it. If you received a good grade, you can't let your guard down. This subject is not for lazy people and I won't tolerate them, do you understand?"

I could see some frightened faces nodding.

"Quite a scary speech, hun?"

I tried to ease the tension that was in the air.

She looked at me like she couldn't believe I was talking to her.

"Yeah, I guess so."
